Inday’s Deepest Secrets

Surprise, our new maid who has been with us for only four weeks has got secrets. Secrets that cannot be hidden. Of course, every secret will find a way out, out into the open. The first time I saw her, I already suspected that she’s not going to be a good maid. True enough, she’s not. I even hoped that she would be good or even better than our previous maid. But actually, she’s even worse than what I feared. She’s a nightmare, honestly1. She’s getting into my nerves and I hate it.

The first thing that I hate about her is that she keeps on using the biggest tube in our house. I don’t get it why she still uses the TV in our living room when she has her own television. We provided her with a TV that she can use, and I don’t get it why she can’t stop from using our 60-inch TV that uses electrical energy at a rate of 160 watts. Maybe, one, she likes a TV with a bigger screen, two, the reception of the TV in our sitting room is better than the one in the extension of our house, and three, there are more channels available in the TV that she loves to use without our permission. She’s ghastly, isn’t she? Wait, you might get me wrong. We’re not stopping her from watching her favorite show, Kamandag (Venom), and whatever God knows what but then, she has to know that there are limitations. So what we’re doing now is that instead of turning our TV on the easier way, we turn it on using the much complicated way. I don’t know if you can imagine it, but so you can visualize it better, let’s just say that instead of pressing only one button, we have to press at least three buttons before we can see people and hear voices from our 60-inch tube.

Another thing that we’ve discovered is that she uses my younger sister’s phone whenever she cans. Let me tell you first than in my sibling’s school, no student is allowed to bring a phone, and when I say that they’re not allowed to do so, they really mean it. In her school, if you were caught to be bringing your phone, you would be reprimanded. So, she has no choice but to leave her phone in our home. And now, here comes our maid… she’s using it without my sister’s authorization . What is worse is that our maid uses my sister’s prepaid load to send SMS to whomever she’s contacting it. We haven’t caught her red handed but the evidences are all pointing to her as the culprit. And just this afternoon, we found out that she tried to use my sister’s phone: she tried guessing the PIN of my sister’s sim card, and now, it’s blocked. And since my sister has already lost the paper that has her sim card’s PUK, she cannot use it anymore. Too bad, that sim card has even prepaid load before it was blocked.

My mother asked our maid to clarify this incident but according to my mom, our maid only turned white — as if her face was soaked in vinegar — and she denied it. She said that she hasn’t touched my sibling’s phone. As my father is on a cruise that started in Hong Kong last Tuesday, this issue will be settled once when he gets back here in the country.

There are other things that I hate about her, this includes:

  • She’s not a good cook. All she can do is fry. I’m even better in frying than her. Lol. Now, I’m not wondering why I don’t always have appetite. One cannot live on fried meals alone. Remember that.
  • She turned on my book light and didn’t turn it off. Now, the batteries of my book light need replacement. Hell, I don’t have moolah left for unexpected expenses. I’m actually saving money right now so I really don’t buy anything unless I need it.
  • She is not as loquacious as compared to our previous maids. She doesn’t sound friendly at all. As a matter of fact, I have only talked to her a couple of times and there was only one incident when I had called her using her name.

We hired a maid because we need one. We took one not just to help us in accomplishing various household chores like cleaning our house, washing and pressing our clothes, and watering the plants in our garden but to also guard our house during those hours when we’re not home. But with what she’s showing us, it looks like that we cannot trust her. Maybe, she’s the one who is stealing our things. So, what do you think… shall we fire her? Who wants me to demonstrate defenestration? Lol.

  1. Lol. Hey, that sentence was a line from the Harry Potter films. Haha. For the previous week, I have watched the five Harry Potter films one more time. []

Yaya, Please Come Back

Effective on Saturday, we will me maid-less once again. No one would be left here in our house during the weekdays. It’s a bit scary because there were reported cases about criminals who go inside the houses and rummages the whole house for precious items like jewelries, notebooks, televisions, cellphones, refrigerators and washing machines and take them away. Okay, that was a bit exaggerated but you get the point. Now, those people with bad intentions know that our place is not guarded every Monday to Friday. Lol.

By the end of this week, the tasks that I don’t usually do would be passed to me like a prestigious title in a pageant. Urgh. I hate that. I’m pretty sure that the title of “King of Dishes” would be passed to me. I would be washing the dishes every now and then which I really hate because it’s very time-consuming and the task is a little messy and my hands get irritated with the dish washing soap. Joy doesn’t work for me. Axion, makes my hands itch even more. And I hate the smell of a bareta1. I’ve suggested to my parents that we should just use paper plates because no one wants to wash the plates and the other wares that we use. But it looks like they don’t want to eat on a paper plate. They find it cheap and inelegant. More than that, I would have other responsibilities that I have to meet which I don’t want to think as of now. Just the fact that I would be washing the dishes once again makes my blood pressure rise.

But maybe, with our impending maid-less days, I would be able to learn various domestic activities. Would you believe me that I don’t know how to polish my shoes? What about if I would tell you that I don’t know how to iron and wash my clothes? Would you believe me? At this point, I would like to tell emphasize that I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. It’s just that these things that I should know by now where not introduced to me. The catch is that I have other things to worry about like cleaning our comfort rooms. Yeah, I know it’s gross, but I do clean them. But as what I have said, maybe, this time, I would learn how to do these tiring activities. Besides, next school year, I would move to an apartment near my school. That’s why I really need to learn these things. The sad thing is that I don’t know where I can get Internet connection once I’m living in an apartment. Should I get a phone line named to myself?

I’m sure that we would miss our maid. She was the greatest maid that we employed. She’s really doing her best and you can see in her face that even though her task is difficult, she strives hard to do what she ought to do correctly. A few things that I would miss about our maid is that every night, while I am busy surfing the Internet she would shout “Christian, ilaw!”, asking me to turn on the light on our backyard. I would also miss calling her name and sounding the door bell numerous times every time that I would arrive. I would also miss her nauseous moments every time that she brushes her teeth. And of course, I will never ever forget that she, just like me and my younger sister got addicted with Grey’s Anatomy. Sosyal ang katulong namin!

On the other hand, even though she’s now leaving to expand her horizon, to explore the world and have the chance to get another job aside from being a maid, the gates of our house is always open for her. We would be glad to have her as a guest that we would serve with sumptuous food and entertain.

PS: I just want to tell everybody that Isley has already opened her blog. Please visit her site! Thanks!

[EDIT] For now, there would be no maid-less days for us because my parents have found a replacement for our old helper who is going to leave our home later this evening. And that means I will not be the king of dishes! Haha. I just hope that our new maid would turn out to be as good as our old one or even better. But this means that I would not be able to learn those simple things that I have to learn… and I would not be able to know how to operate our washing machine yet. Haha. Whatever. [/EDIT]

Yaya, What’s for Lunch?

From what I remember, we had more or less ten yayas1 since the 90’s. Some were irritating, lazy as hell, and irritating. Oh, have I said that they’re irritating? While others were friendly and they do their work as how they should do it.

The first maid that we’ve got, as far as I can remember was an old woman from Leyte. We had her for more than ten years. She did what she ought to do: clean the house, take care of us, prepare food, etcetera. But as time passed by, she became irritating and very slow. Talking about of “depreciation.” A whole day is not enough for her to finish ironing our clothes or wash them. She fought verbally with my parents when she don’t like whatever she had to do.

I’m not sure of the reason why she left. But from what I’ve heard from my parents, the wife of her son died and she had to take care of his son — who is by the way blind — and her two grandchildren. Now, she’s getting very low pension from SSS.

From the time she left and when we got our present maid, we had several maids. All were irritating!

I’ve listed here some of the things that made me irritated:

  • One of them loves to cook at the wrong time so we end up eating cold food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Another one let strangers inside the house. Won’t that freak you out? 8O
  • Most of them clean the house a few minutes before my parents would arrive.
  • My clothes always get mixed with those of my siblings. I always end up looking for my clothes.
  • One had met the other maids in the neighborhood. They always talk whenever they get the chance.

The present maid that we got — who is on leave for a week — is the most industrious among the maids that we’ve got over the years. According to my mother, she is the best. She does whatever my parents told her. Actually, before she left for Bacolod yesterday, she washed all of our dirty clothes. And to my siblings, she’s not just a maid but also a friend.

But even though we’ve got a maid that do almost everything of the household chores, my mother still insist that we do some chores. Yeah, she’s right. We should. Why? It’s for our own good, when we got older, I’m sure we will also be doing those household chores, like it or not.

And this reminds me that I still haven’t got to clean my room since the start of the summer vacation. I badly need to clean my room!

I’m 50% sure that I’ll attend the iblog3. What I’m thinking now is how I’ll get back home from UP. My friend who goes to UP said to me that I can go back to SM North Edsa, but that means that I’ll have to wait for a bus and that could take for ages. He suggested that I can go to Cubao and look for the bus that’ll go to Bataan there.
