During my sophomore year in HS one of us was required to report at least three news everyday during our Araling Panlipunan class. One of my classmates get some news from the tabloids and you know what kind of news you can get there… no, I’m not speaking of the latest rumors that you can find at the “centerfold”. To give you more idea what I’m talking about here is the summary of the news: a mother forced her baby to drink bleach. I know it’s a sad story but we were all laughing at that time. I was also able to read stupid news from a tabloid: a gay got killed because he’s playing with a bomb. You see, you won’t get sensible news from tabloids.

If you really want to read something that has sense, buy the broadsheets instead! My favorite broadsheets are the Philippine Daily Inquirer (especially the 2BU section) and Philippine Star. Just a random fact about me, I read the news paper from good to bad in other words, back to front. Just don’t buy me a copy of Manila Bulletin, I don’t have time to read long articles and I’m not looking for a job! Lol. (I hope you know what I’m talking about).

Well, you can now also read news straight from your computer or laptop via the internet and even in your cellphone. CNN is correct — the news follows you!

Since I don’t listen to AM stations let us skip to the best way to catch the latest events which is to watch TV. There are various local and international stations to choose from. Personally, I only watch news from ABS-CBN and CNN. Why? Because I think the other stations are biased. Especially NBN (since it’s the government official station) but I don’t say that they are indeed biased! Okay? It’s only my personal view.

Let’s concentrate with ABS-CBN and GMA… the two big network companies in the country. As usual, both are claiming that they are practicing responsible journalism.

Wait, before I continue, I have this to say: I’m not a avid kapamilya nor a certified kapuso.

If you still remember, our president commended GMA (the station) for broadcasting the real stories. Or was it because GMA (the station) is only airing news that has nothing to do and will not destroy the reputation of the palace? If this is true it will prove my theory that these stations are biased.

So who is prevailing the truth? Nobody knows. If they really want to give service to our fellow Filipinos they should be practicing serbisyong totoo. Right? All we want is balanced news and fearless views!

PS: Oh, go BJ and Tyler (Amazing Race 9)! [EDIT] Woot! The hippies won! I thought they will never make it! And I just noticed that Jeremy looks like Aldred of PBB. < ?php /* I'm just going to hide something. Here it is: http://www.jaunted.com/story/2006/4/3/93331/35157/celeb/Amazing+Race+9%3A+Eric+%26amp%3B+Jeremy%27s+Half+Naked+Party+Photos */ ?> [/EDIT]

PSS: Who’s looking for a host? Yeah, hosting in here is for invitational only but since I don’t know who wants to get hosted, I’m going to ask who wants to be hosted! So, do you want to be hosted eh?

Markers

Here are some milestones during my month-long hiatus…

Palenke Disaster — February 11
We went to the wet public market of San Fernando, Pampanga to do our documentary for AP which was our finals for the said subject. We tackled things about the market, equilibrium (tawaran), the price of the pork, fish (even tuyo!), chicken, etc. We encountered some vendors that don’t like to be interviewed, but most of them really like to be interviewed. Sasabihin sana namin, taga Starstruck kami… lol But I felt uneasy when we’re already there because there were so many people looking at us. Good thing, I was only a camera man… We were only doing it during the morning, then we went to SM… not to interview people there but to eat. The original plan was to go back to the market and try to finish our documentary after we ate our lunch but my group mates decided to watch Saw2. Well, I did not joined them, I went back home.

Dead & Alive — February 13
It was one of my close friends’ birthday, she told me that she’ll treat us after our classes. Alas, I had to go to our homeland because it was my Lolo’s 1st death anniversary. I don’t want him to haunt me in my dreams…

Palenke Disaster II — February 18
We continued doing our AP Finals. We were able to interview some people in the market and a grocery store owner. We also fimed two commercials (that will surely make you laugh once you have seen them, I’ll try to post them in the internet). But time flies so fast, we still don’t have the “scenes” at the studio, so we continued it the very next week.

QB — February 24
I was a contestant in our Quiz Bee at school. And I’m so glad the we won the first place! Haha! I did not expected it.

Ooops! — February 25
We finished our AP Finals. But we encountered a big problem. Those people at the shop we went can’t transfer the film we made. They need the jacks of the camcorder. It’s already 4:30 at that time and they’ll close at 5:30. They don’t open at Sundays and I still have to edit it and the deadline was last February 28.

Food Trip — February 27
We had our finals for TLE — Catering. At exactly 8:00 we started with our work. Mind you, it’s exhausting. And about our documentary, what we did was one of my group mates did not went to school in the morning (since I can’t go), he went to the shop to have our documentary transfered. Fortunately, our documentary was transfered. And in the evening of that same day, I finished editing it.

UST — March 02
I went to school in the morning because my adviser told us that’ll have our class picture. We also watched some of the documentaries that we made, including ours… it’s very hilarious! Even my adviser (our AP teacher) was laughing! At 10:00, I already went home because we’re going to Manila. Btw, by the time I went home, we still haven’t had our class picture. When we arrived at UST, my parents left me there because they still have to go to St. Luke’s. (I went to UST because i’m on academic placement). So I was there, third in the line and when they gave me the list of the courses I passed, I was shocked because the list is really what I call a list (lol) because it’s long. I passed 34 courses at UST! I chose Architecture and HRM. I still can’t say “See you at UST!” because I still have to wait for a month and a couple of weeks before I’ll know if I have a slot. And I think my parents don’t like me to go there because it’s far. When we’re on our way home, one of my classmates SMSed me that they had their class picture. And I was there, at the back seat of our car feeling sad because it’s the last class picture I will be in, and I was not able to join because I’m following up my appication at UST…

The Finale’s Near — March 08-10
We had our finals. Generally, I find our finals easy, but dunno… I have to wait for the results and prove to my self that our finals was indeed easy! And you know what? Some of our teachers are stealling our time to review! Can’t they understand that we have to review? And they only told us that we have to stay up to 2:00 (instead of 12:00) the same day when we’re dismissed at 2:00. They got to my nerves! Btw, we had our class picture… re-shoot. Becuse the pictures that the photographer took were not fit to the layout that our computer teacher made.

JS Tonight — March 11
Marks the end of my month-long hiatus. Yeah, I’m back! Woot! And yeah, tonight, we’ll have our JS Prom… it’s yet another good way to waste money! Grr… I don’t have any choice but to attend. I’m sure I will not enjoy it and I hope they will not serve us “Bread Sticks” for appetizer.
