Photoshopping Again
Last Thursday, Friday and yesterday (we were supposed to have make up classes), we didn’t have any classes. And during those days, Snidget was working the whole day. And guess what I discovered…
Two days ago, I realized that Adobe Photoshop CS2 can run on Snidget, my notebook (running on Windows Vista). Now, I can work on with a new layout.
And look at my latest masterpiece…
I know, it’s not that fabulous. What I only did in this photo was that I changed the background, applied some brushes, altered the photo in the frame, applied a filter and of course, put some make-up (clone stamp) on my forehead. Casual users of PS can do this. But since I missed photoshopping — I guess, the last time I used PS was last May — I had to start again from the basics just so I can know if I still remember them. And I think, yes, I still know how to use PS.

Yesterday, after a hundred years, I had the time and guts to clean my room. I know that I’ve blogged about my plans to clean my room numerous times, but it was only yesterday when I was able to put those plans into action. That’s how lazy I am. If it was not for our maid who have been cleaning my room regularly all this time, I’m sure, dirt would have compiled into an inch!

Classes will resume tomorrow. Unless it would start raining cats and dogs again. Pwroar! I still don’t want to go back to school!

Safari on Windows
Before anything else, I just want to greet every Filipino out there a happy Independence Day. Seriously, I can’t feel the vibe. I haven’t received any text messages greeting me “a happy Independence Day” or read a blog entry about this very special day. Don’t tell me I got the wrong date.

When I started surfing the internet today, the last day of my last summer vacation I came across with this headline on digg.com: Safari on Windows. I thought that Safari — the default web browser that comes along with every new Mac — was available for Windows before today. Obviously, I was wrong. But now, you can run it on your PC. Now we can tell if our blogs do break or not on Safari without buying a very expensive Mac. I tried mine and my site doesn’t look awkward or whatever. Safari renders my site almost like Firefox.
Pros:
- Cool UI. I’ve read somewhere that it gives you the feel of how Safari looks like on a Mac. Sleek!
- In my experience, almost all embedded Quicktime movies would make Firefox and IE7 crash on Windows Vista. Since Quicktime and Safari’s creator are just one, they blend smoothly.
- I really like the Private Browsing1 feature of Safari. Best used for viewing porn sites. Haha.
- Firefox greatest feature was also copied by Safari: tabbed browsing. But what’s original is that you can make an existing tab to open into a new window by just dragging it out and if you want to put all of your opened windows into just only one, you can merge them.
- There’s also a built-in pop-up blocker. That’s self explanatory.
- Text fields are resizable. No more unnecessary scrolling for text fields!
- The built-in RSS is astounding, but that does not mean I’m leaving Google Reader.
- The “Find” feature of Safari is better than Firefox. The highlighted text is easier to locate.
Cons:
- Safari for Windows is still in beta, so it’s buggish.
- You can only resize the window with the bottom-right corner of the window.
- I think this one is only a bug, whenever you minimize a maximized window and you want to restore it, it wouldn’t go back to the maximized state, but to the restored down one.
- There is no button on the toolbar that’ll open a new tab. The “New Tab” is buried under the “File” menu, so it would take you two clicks to open a new tab, alternatively, you can use Ctrl+T (the same shortcut for opening a new tab with the other browsers that support tabbed browsing). Moreover, the “+” button on the toolbar is misleading especially if you use have used Firefox for a while, because it only creates a new bookmark. Firefox, on the other hand, would create a new tab when you click the “+” button.
- Other features in Firefox are also available (copied?) in Safari
- If Firefox loves memory hogging, Safari loves it even more. It uses most of my memory. But since I’ve got 1GB of RAM2, it’s not really a big problem.
- Only basic plugins (e.g:Java, Flash) are available.
Bottom Line
I’m sticking wtih Firefox, it is still the best browser in my opinion no matter what Mac says (that Safari is 1.6 times faster than Firefox in rendering HTML and executing JavaScript). With Firefox, you can do more things aside from visiting websites. But I’m not removing Safari from Snidget. I’m going to use it the layouts that I create are compatible with it and watching Quicktime movies. You can download Safari 3 Public Beta at the Apple website (that just got a new makeover).
Opera isn’t installed on Snidget yet, I might try it the next time I got a free time.

Oh No! It’s June Already!
Now that only eleven days are left before school begins, I still haven’t prepared anything. I still don’t have the school supplies that I would need like notebooks (Corona and binders), ballpen (0.5 or thinner than that), paper (yellow pad and Corona bond paper), and other things that are essential for students. Well, I’m not really inclined to get back to school because school is hell, moreover, college is fatal. Lol.
I’ve got three reasons why I don’t want to go to school, on the top of the list is that I don’t want my course. Two, I would have a new set of classmates, I still don’t get it why they had to reshuffle us. And the last one is that I hate my schedule.
Here is a preview of my schedule: M 9:00am to 3:00pm, TTH 7:00am to 5:00pm, WF 9:00am to 5:00pm. That means, I would be spending more time in school now, and by logic, you’ll also get that I would be spending less time in surfing the internet.

- There’s a new feature in Google Maps called street view, we can now tour the streets of San Francisco, Las Vegas, Colorado, New York and Miami without leaving the comforts of Google. Sure, there are other sites that offers this same feature, but I think this is better because you can have a full 360° view of a particular place. You may also want to read this funny article about the top 15 Google street view sightings. There was this one who was caught trying to break into a house, and this one shows two girls sunbathing. Lol!
- Before my vacation would end. I want to do this. I can’t still believe that you can calculate the value of pi by just throwing frozen hot dogs! It sounds crazy but it looks like it’s true.
- Did you know that CBS bought Last.fm?
- Another must-do for those people who are still stuck with dial-up (and even those people with a broadband connection but want their browsing experience a bit faster), hack FireFox.
- This is so amazing: Microsoft Surface. I want one! Lol.
- It’s official, Google has acquired FeedBurner.
- This one is not yet on digg.com and del.icio.us, but you should know this, especially if you know Neil of es2pido.com. He won a notebook computer, a digicam, and a whooping PHP 100000.00 from Eat Bulaga’s On the Spot. After reading and knowing some facts about his life, I can say that he really deserves it! Oi! Neil, balato naman jan! I can give you my bank account. Haha. Lol. Joke.

Lol. No, I don’t have any plans on starting my own podcast, you would not want to hear my voice. I’m just doing some wordplay. But then, it would be great if I can have my own podcast.
[EDIT] Finally, my new layout is up. I’ve lost count of how many themes that I’ve already used, so I don’t know what the version number of this theme is. My codes are valid (except for CSS) but I still think there are few bugs out there. So if you found one lurking, please report it to me.
This theme is a bit, shall I say, thinner? It’s a big mistake. I should have made it a little more thicker. The photos that I posted here won’t fit on the content part. And now, I can’t do the necessary tweaks because I don’t have a decent graphics editor installed on Snidget. And the computer where Adobe Photoshop CS2 is installed is on haywire-mode. (I have other options that’ll solve this problem, though I prefer doing the option that I presented here, I don’t have any choice but to look for an alternative solution.)
It is 800×600 pixels (and up) friendly. I tried it with both IE7 and Mozilla Firefox but it looks better with the latter. [/EDIT]

So I’m Addicted With Snidget?
Almost two weeks after I acquired Snidget (my brand new notebook), my father is now accusing me of using my notebook excessively. I guess, I’m guilty. The accusation against me is correct. I’m just only using my laptop for more than ten hours daily. Bad, eh? But then, if I won’t do so, there’s nothing left for me to do. This is the only way I can fight boredom.
Thanks to del.icio.us and Digg, they’re keeping me busy. I’ve seen spectacular sites, gain some new knowledge and laughed with only just these two sites.
Now, I’ll be sharing to you the sites or pages that I’ve been visiting lately.
- 1-click Award — The site is in Japanese, but you don’t have to read anything. Just look at the embedded Flash on this site (and try clicking on it). It was hilarious! I want that cursor on my notebook!
- Drivl.com | The 22 Worst Place Names in the World — Funny. Did you know that there’s a place called F*cking in Austria? Eh? Now, I wonder what are the worst place names here in the Philippines.
- Upside-Down-Ternet — Though no one is stealing my wireless internet access, how I wish this is possible with a PC. Do you know how to do this in Vista? Teach me! This how-to is for Linux users.
- Gateway II — A Flash game for those people with a high IQ.
- Line Game — Another Flash game, but this time, for everyone!
- Hack DNS for lightning-fast Web browsing — I’ve done this ages ago, and I can say that it’s effective. You should try it, especially those who are still using dial-up.
