Pentium 1

It’s inevitable, isn’t? There will come a time when the disk drive that we have will be in critical level, in other words, there will be scarcity with the available disk space that we have. That only means that we have to add more space, or delete a few programs and files, or move them to an external disk. And in my case, the unused space that I have is starting to deplete. To make matters worst, I don’t know which files and programs that I have to throw to the recycle bin. I also don’t own any external devices that I can use. The only means to backup the data that I can do is by burning files in CDs or DVDs and you know how unstable they are.

Moreover, I’m starting to feel that the physical memory that I have is not enough. Even though my physical memory that i have is a whooping 1 GB, I can feel that my computer is acting sluggish sometimes. During simple tests, I still have to wait for a few seconds or even minutes before my computer will respond.

I also have to upgrade a lot of things. Not only hardwares but also the programs that are currently installed in my computer which also contribute to the sluggishness of it.

Oh, it’s not my laptop that I am referring to but my brain. For more than 18 years, my brain has been abused, damaged, and over-used especially nowadays where I have to memorize a lot of things. Seriously, I badly need to shut down or just even hibernate it for a while. My brain hasn’t rested for almost a year now from school work. My brain cells are dying. And if I were to sell my brain, I’m sure, I would only earn a few cents because no one would like it and it’s overused!

A couple of weeks ago, I had to subtract something. Yeah, simple Math. God, I wasn’t able to get the right answer. The thing is, it took me five minutes before I realized my mistake: I used the minuend as the subtrahend, and the subtrahend as the minuend. How stupid is that?

All I want now is a very long vacation in a quite place far from civilization where I can rest for weeks, I don’t have to think about school related work, annoying blockmates, read unreliable text books, incompetent instructors, and avoid eating in fast food chains1 so that my brain could have all the rest it needs.

Of course, if someone out there is willing to lend me his or her brain, I would really appreciate it!

BTW, I’m now hosting Kathrin’s blog. She’s one of my oldest friends in the Internet.

  1. Since last semester, I eat in a fast food chain at least once or twice a week. God, they should abolish the branches of McDonald’s and Jollibee near our school. []

Tired.

Last week was a very long week to me because of my midterm exams. But that’s not all, last Monday, we still had two examinations. And even our exams were over, we were not yet allowed to breath freely because we had so many things to do.

I was only able to take a very nice sleep again yesterday even though I was not yet allowed to because of a test we had today in one of my major subjects. Today, I can have another good sleep even though tomorrow will be the second part of our midterm exam in English. Unlike my blockmates, I’ve memorized the poems I chose (Robert Frost’s “The Road not Taken”1 and an excerpt from “The Libation Bearers”2 by Aeschylus) days ago before our midterm exams started so I don’t have to worry about it too much.

Tomorrow will be the first death anniversary of my grandfather. Likewise, my uncle and aunt will arrive tomorrow from USA. That means, we’ll go to the airport3. So there are only slim chances that I will be able to go online tomorrow. During the weekend, I will not be at home because of the death anniversary of my grandfather. Actually, the rites will still be on Saturday, we have to wait for our relatives and everybody has work or have to go to school tomorrow.

Ah, even though I have plenty of free time, it’s still limited. Time is gold. I have to go now. I need to pack my things for school and for the succeeding days, my notebook included.

Bowling class again tomorrow! Oh no! I’m sure by Saturday, my body will be aching again. Oh, I’ll just read your blogs during the weekend!

  3. Care to meet me there? Lol! []

So I’m Addicted With Snidget?

Almost two weeks after I acquired Snidget (my brand new notebook), my father is now accusing me of using my notebook excessively. I guess, I’m guilty. The accusation against me is correct. I’m just only using my laptop for more than ten hours daily. Bad, eh? But then, if I won’t do so, there’s nothing left for me to do. This is the only way I can fight boredom.

Thanks to del.icio.us and Digg, they’re keeping me busy. I’ve seen spectacular sites, gain some new knowledge and laughed with only just these two sites.

Now, I’ll be sharing to you the sites or pages that I’ve been visiting lately.

  • 1-click Award — The site is in Japanese, but you don’t have to read anything. Just look at the embedded Flash on this site (and try clicking on it). It was hilarious! I want that cursor on my notebook!
  • Drivl.com | The 22 Worst Place Names in the World — Funny. Did you know that there’s a place called F*cking in Austria? Eh? Now, I wonder what are the worst place names here in the Philippines.
  • Upside-Down-Ternet — Though no one is stealing my wireless internet access, how I wish this is possible with a PC. Do you know how to do this in Vista? Teach me! This how-to is for Linux users.
  • Gateway II — A Flash game for those people with a high IQ.
  • Line Game — Another Flash game, but this time, for everyone!
  • Hack DNS for lightning-fast Web browsing — I’ve done this ages ago, and I can say that it’s effective. You should try it, especially those who are still using dial-up.

Well, that’s all for now. There’s really nothing to tell you nowadays.

PS: I’m not sure about this, but has Google acquired FeedBurner recently?

Big Surprises

Last Sunday, I and my family had another unplanned trip. This time, we went to Subic where we had some fun in the beach. I miss Subic so much, I think it has been seven years since we last went there (and about four years since I last went to a beach). Here are some photos from our recent trip to Subic.

Let's go to the Beach!

And of course, I want you to meet Snidget.

Vistah!

Yep, that’s Snidget, my brand new notebook. It’s a Compaq Presario V3324TU Notebook PC (click the link to see the specifications).

I got the name Snidget from the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by JK Rowling under the pen name Newt Scamander. It’s a magical creature that can fly fast. Before, the Snidget was used in the game of Quidditch.

As you can have seen in the picture, my laptop’s operating system is Windows Vista, and hey, Vista rocks! I like some of the new features like the sidebar (which can be found in your desktop). I’m not sure if other computers have it, but my notebook has a feature called voice recognition. I can simply say what I want to type! Isn’t that cool?

Now, are you wondering how I got this laptop? My father decided to buy me this notebook so that I’ll stick with the course that I took the previous academic year. I just hope I made the right decision.

Nevertheless, I’m enjoying my brand new laptop. It’s already one day old and I’ve already installed lots of programs that I use like Mozilla Firefox (plus the add-ons and plugins), Yahoo! Messenger, and Xampp.

Argh! I don’t have Microsoft Office! I badly need that application. Now, I’m wondering how much is the license of that application…

Yeah, this is another lame post.
