Birthday Bash

chocolate-coffee cupcake with mocha ganache and mascarpone cream Okay, my birthday is more than seven months away and I haven’t attended a birthday party recently but this post is about a party… a party that I want to have. This may sound really absurd to anyone who reads it: I want to have a children’s birthday party! Yeah, lol. I know, it’s weird. As a matter of fact, thinking of it makes me laugh like a person who lost his sanity (or have I lost my sanity already?). But I’m dead serious about this one.

I want to celebrate one of my birthdays in a local branch of McDonald’s or Jollibee where I and my friends can fill our hungry tummies with delicious cheeseburgers, spaghetti, fatty French fries, deep-fried chickens, and sundaes. Of course, there will be party hats in assorted colors, a banner that says “Happy Birthday, Christian!” with Ronald McDonald or Jollibee and their respective friends as its background.

There will also be an emcee who will host parlor games but the games will be uh, adult-ish. Lol. We’ll play an edited version of Trip to Jerusalem. The guys will hold bananas just in front of their pants and these bananas will serve as the “chairs.” The contestants will be either females or gays (to make the game more exciting and funnier). The contestants will circle around the guys sporting bananas in front of their jeans while dancing like a GRO in a far-flung cabaret in the tune of a novelty song composed by Lito Camo (God, how gross is that?). Once the music stops, the contestants will try to grab one of the bananas. The one who will not be able to get a banana is out of the game. The process will go on until a winner will be declared. Okay, I’m exaggerating. Loot bags will be given to the participants. These loot bags will contain but not limited to chocolates and candies.

Of course, there will be a special appearance of a mascot (I really feel sorry to those people wearing those stupid costumes) who will give entertainment to everyone who is in the party. Either Jollibee or Ronald will dance like there’s no tomorrow. And we’ll see if we can make Jollibee dance a folk dance (preferably Pandanggo sa Ilaw) or make Ronald sing.

I’m sure everyone will enjoy the party even though every bit of it is very childish! Haha.

So… will you join my party? Haha. Magpapa-cheeseburger ako!

Yeah. I have a new layout! Woot! It’s been a while since I last used a dark theme. I really like this one. I love its simplicity and the semi-transparent columns. But I’m not sure if this will work with older versions of the effing and the most ridiculous browser to me: IE. Expect to see some minor changes to this new layout in the coming days. A credit is due to this simple CSS trick to make semi-transparents columns and to imjustincognito’s amazing photo that I used as my header.

Torture or no torture?

I sacrificed The Amazing Race (we don’t have AXN) just to watch Kapamilya Deal or No Deal. Well, it worth it, lol, if it’s not for it, I would be not updating my blog tonight.

Here’s a recap of tonight’s episode…

I don’t really know what happened at first but it looks like the contestant borrowed the necklace of his cousin’s. And after the first round (or was it the second?), Kris Aquino, the ever tactless host of the show commented that the necklace was not a lucky charm for him so Kris forced the contestant to hand back the necklace. But after another round, it turned out to be as bad as the previous one as two briefcases (not sure) that hold big amounts were revealed.

So Kris asked the contestant and his cousin to exchange with one another their tops as it Kris believed that it might help the contestant to get the luck that he needed. Well, of course, this was done during the commercial break. At first the two guys were reluctant but they submitted to Kris’ suggestion in the end.

After the commercial break, the cordless phone rang up again which Kris and the banker use to communicate with one another. As the banker had already gave his offer just before Kris called for a commercial break, Kris was shocked. The banker reported the cousin of the contestant to Kris. You see, the banker can hear everything from as all the microphones are connected to his panel. During the commercial break the contestant’s cousin said something like:

Ang ganda ng pasok niya kanina, tapos sinira ni Kris (His start was good but Kris somehow interfered with it).

Actually, the part where the kins of the contestant talked about Kris destroying their kin’s good performance was even showed.

Well, of course, the queen of tactless was surprised. I think she felt embarrassed which made her agitated to the cousin of the contestant and it also made the offer of the banker to sunk a little lower.

It was Kris’ turn to embarrass… she let the contestant’s cousin to choose a briefcase, and alas, the briefcase contained PHP 100000.00. And do you know what Kris did? She laughed (hahahaha) very hard! Whoa… it was so embarrassing for the contestant’s cousin and it was even televised nationwide! But that did not stop there, the banker asked the contestant to choose from two offers, a lower one and his cousin would stay in the studio or a higher offer but his cousin has to step out of the studio. The contestant chose the latter, what the?! And Kris said “Bye” to the poor lad with matching hand gesture to show the way out! Well, the contestant’s cousin also liked the latter option…

But wait, that does not end there! Every time the banker had the opportunity, he showed the contestant’s cousin on the screen being filmed on the hallway. He was showed after every round. It even looked like that the cops where looking for that guy as above him was the banker’s offer. Just add the word “wanted” to complete the embarrassing moment! Mind you, I think that person was almost into tears!

He was only allowed to enter again after the contestant had won PHP 100000.00.

*****

Okay, I’m not taking sides…

At the very first place, if the cousin of the contestant did not say that stupid comment, he would not end with that most embarrassing moment of his life now! Is he not aware that he had a microphone that was directly connected to the banker’s panel and everything that he said and did were being recorded?

As for Kris and the banker, what they did was so rude! Can’t they imagine what would happen to that person after that? They made him like a puppet! It was really rude! And why did they have to broadcast and show it to the viewing public? Why they did not just talk with that person after taping that episode with no cameras and no microphones?

*****

Now, I won’t be surprised if the show’s ratings would gradually sunk. I would not be surprised if the contestant and his family would go and support the greatest rival of the network that broadcasts Kapamilya Deal or No Deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if this news is on this week’s top rumors. (I would not be surprised if James Yap is under.)

And to close this entry, let me quote the line Kris has said just before the credits rolled:

Wag kokontrahin ang buntis (Do not interfere with the pregnant)!

* I got the title from one of my high school classmates.

The day when I got so lucky

Here’s the story on how I got PHP 50.00 worth of prepaid load and PHP 125.00 in school last Friday.

My original plan last Friday was that I would only watch the quiz bee so as to support my blockmates and after it, I would go back home. You see, it was our college day two days ago (actually, it started last Thursday and it yesterday). If it was not for the attendance, I did not go to school!

During the latter part of the contest proper I had this SMS conversation with one of my HS friends.

Christian: Woot! Nakakuha ako ng 50 na load!
Perfect: Sige, makakarma ka rin niyan!
Christian: Hindi kaya! Nakasagot ako kanina dun sa mga tanong para sa mga audience, nanonood kasi ako ng quiz bee
Perfect: Basta, makakarma ka pa rin niyan, sinusumpa ko!
Christian: Whatever!

Sorry for those poeple who can’t understand Filipino/Tagalog, I don’t have time to translate it. Just before the championship round, the quiz master announced that there were questions for the audience to answer and whoever would answer the question correctly would get load! Pakapalan na ng mukha… I was able to answer the question “What city would host the Olympics in 2012?”, why wouldn’t I know the answer? It’s the place I want to go someday… London!

And just before the quiz bee had ended, the karma that my friend was telling me came. I thought at first it was a bad karma and in the end, I realized that it was a good one. Talking about blessing in disguise…

One of the members of the faculty was calling me and my two blockmates who were with me (one of them was a contestant in the quiz bee but alas, he was eliminated). We were asked to enter a room packed with other students. Another blockmate of mine also entered the room (also a contestant of the quiz bee who was eliminated), she thought that we were already going so she went with us.

And after some more seconds we were surprised that we were the contestants in a reality based show oriented competition, no it’s not PBB, it’s more like the program of the other channel which was now removed from the face of the television!

Yeah, we were proclaimed as the contestants, on the spot! What’s this? “Impromptu Challenge”? Lol. There were six teams, composed of four students (one contestant from each level) and a member of the faculty. My team was the white also known as transparent team (hey, when did white become transparent?). Obviously, my other three blockmates were in the other teams. During that time, I can’t help but laugh, you see, I thought “on the spot” was only applicable in HS, but now I knew that there is also “on the spot” in college and the faculty members were so funny! You won’t even think that they were instructors!

It was really like playing in a TV show, but this time, no cameras, no interviews and lower amount of prizes. In the first phase (there were three phases), there were six challenges. The main objective was to gain the most little amount of time. We had three minutes to finish every single task, failure to finish a task will mean time penalty.

The first challenge was intradermal (I’m not sure if it’s called like that or how it’s done) where somebody from the group had to inject distilled water on our skins. It was really painful! It was like ten bees puncturing a certain part of your skin! It was the only challenge that we were able to finish. The second one was Pinoy henyo where a piece of paper will be pasted/tapped on your forehead (something like that) and you had to guess the word/s in that paper correctly with the help of another person who can only answer by yes, no or maybe so as to limit your ideas and in the end, arrive with the correct answer. The third was something like “kissing card game” … the game that I hate most. The first person had to suck a piece of plastic and pass it to the next person by blowing it, and in return that next person would suck it and the process goes on until the last person gets it. In the fourth challenge, three of us had to hold folders to guide a ball to a paper bag, one had to drop the ball and that ball had a question in it which another contestant has to answer. The fifth one was called “Fear Factor”, there were five pieces of styrofoam on a table, every member of the group had to choose one and eat whatever inside it. The choices: earthworms, rats, lizards, flies, and black beetles… all alive and kicking! Joke! The real choices were donut, lemon, tomato, one day old egg, and an uncooked egg. The one that I get was the donut! Haha! I think it was from Go Nuts Donuts because it was so sweet! Lol! The last task was to do a puzzle! There were five puzzles, one for each member and it was only the fourth year student who was able to finish her puzzle.

After the times were tabulated, we were surprised that we were still on the game! Whoa! Two teams were eliminated. Phase two was easier, all we had to do was to listen to a clue and form the answer out of the letters of our college. Alas we lost (there was also another team that was eliminated). The good part was that our team ended with 3rd place and we received PHP 500.00! We had to divide it into five as we were five in the group. The faculty member we had in the group decided to give to us his prize so all in all, I got PHP 125.00 from joining that challenge!

The next time that we will have our college days, I’ll make sure that I will watch the quiz bee and that I will be a contestant of the challenge! Lol!

And the race is on

My computer’s processor is only Pentium III and the OS that I’m using is Windows XP. Actually, I don’t really care whatever processor my computer has or if the OS that I’m using isn’t the latest. What I really care about are the programs that are installed. As long as I have the necessary programs that I will need for school and for creating a website, I’m already okay with it.

There are only three games that are currently installed in my computer other than the preinstalled ones (Minsweeper, Solitare, etc.) and I’m planning the remove them soon as I’m not playing them anymore. Last weekend, we slept somewhere else in Pampanga. As I can’t bring my computer with me and I can’t resist surfing the internet, I spent some of my time in an internet café. And instead of surfing the internet, I ended up playing Prince of Persia. And now, I want to install it in my computer. But then again, it is okay for me even if I don’t have it.

What I always play is a game that I call “Make-a-layout-that-suits-my-taste”. I like doing layouts (especially if I had time and I’m not on a layout block) and most of the time, I end up with layouts that I personally don’t like. Game over. I have to start all over again. If I passed level one, of course, I would proceed to level two where I have to code the layoutÂ… and you know what happens next and the next after next… I don’t have to write it here, really.

(Wait, who told you that this was your computer? Lol.)

Yesterday was the start of the Amazing Race. Actually, I watched both the via satellite and the prime time telecasts of the said show. It looks like Tyler and James will win the race so I will go for them, if they were eliminated before the last leg, I would go for the beauty queens! I did not expect that two teams will be eliminated by the end of the first leg. What’s more, the ones who were eliminated were the teams who were introduced with profound faith. On the other hand, I can’t believe that Kimberly (the one who was wearing a prosthetic) was able to scale up the Great Wall of China using a rope even though she struggled for some time.

I think some of the excitements of the Amazing Race have gone but I’m looking forward to see the next episodes. And I want to see what are the new twists the writers did in this season.

Currently, I’m reading a novel called Lost and Found by Carolyn Parkhurst. You know, it’s addictive. Lol. I already finished the half of it. The only bad thing is that it is expensive. If it was not on sale, it would have cost me PHP 589. But since it was on sale, just slash 20% from the regular prize and the answer you’ll get was the amount of money I paid for it. Just do the math okay?

It’s a story of the people who are playing in a reality based show. At first I did not know why the title of the book was like that but after reading the first few pages, I found out that it’s also the title of the show. This reality based show is like the Amazing Race and Treasure Hunt rolled into one. It’s just like I’m watching the Amazing Race when I’m reading it. The only difference is that there are also behind the camera scenes.

The contestants have personal secrets and have undergone audition because the producers hope that they will burst during the course of the race which can make the ratings of the show higher. It’s a story of a mother and her daughter who had some sort of misunderstanding, a married couple who proclaims themselves as “ex-homosexuals”, two brothers (one of them has a sick child), a pair of a former child stars (one of them wants to reach the peak of her career again), a couple of weird millionaires, a couple of former high school sweethearts and a pair of flight attendants. (Actually, the last three teams are just some sort of extras because the story is not really evolving around them).

As I already mentioned homosexuality. I want to say this: one of my teachers accused Sam Milby as gay. What do you think?
