Noisy: Minus Five

Remember those times during our grade school days when our teachers would ask somebody — someone who is trustworthy — to write the names of those people who are noisy, standing and not in their proper place in the blackboard… and in the end of the subject, those people who were listed get an automatic minus five direct to whatever the teacher would feel like? But that does not sound applicable in college right? Just the thought of it makes me laugh. If this happened in college, it could mean that the students are really noisy and they look like as if they were released from their cages and wherein chaos always prevail.

But seriously, I would be glad if this would happen (just this semester). Why? Because my latest set of blockmates are very noisy. Our instructors always get irritated because of the noisiness in our room. Even I, gets annoyed because of the noise pollution. I can’t wait to have a new set of classmates.

The noisiest person in our class talks as if she is talking to 20 students… and that’s how she talks normally. Your mind will surely get dry at the end of the day. I also have this blockmate who does not only talk very loud but also butts in in the middle of the lecture of our professors. No wonder why our instructors hate our class. No wonder — according to one of our teachers — why our section is the “talk of the faculty”. What is worse is that my blockmates don’t even seem to care. They still talk and talk and talk very loud as if they ate a megaphone and it got stuck in their vocal cords.

Still, in school related events, from the last time I posted my previous update, which was 17 days ago, I wasn’t really busy. Actually, last week, we had our University Games (which I didn’t attended BTW… haha) so classes were suspended. And yesterday was a holiday here in our province because yesterday was Pampanga day. It’s just I have a writer’s block lately.

Tomorrow will be the start of our Preliminary Exams. Are you wondering why I am online and not reviewing? Haha. Well, I only have one subject to sit and I’ve got plenty of time to review tomorrow. I don’t even have to memorize lots of things. I just need to read.

Finally, my Christmas vacation would start exactly a week from now. I can hardly wait!

My Latest Baguio Adventure

Last week, I was in Baguio with my family. We went there because of my uncle and aunt who came back here in the Philippines after six or seven long years stay at USA1. We stayed there for exactly 24 hours. Hmm… did I enjoy the trip? No, why? It was raining there last week. That was why we can’t go to Burnham Park or even Camp John Hay.

The place where we stayed for the night was big, it was a nice place. Since we can’t go to a park we decided to eat in the place we stayed in.

BBQ

In the afternoon of Saturday, we went to — um, I’ve already forget how you call that place — somewhere in Baguio to buy pasalubong2. There, I saw the unusual taho vendors3. They also have the strawberry flavored taho but I still haven’t tried it yet.

Then, we went to Baguio Cathedral to hear mass.

And we also went to the air-con-less SM City Baguio.

I tried to look for a good book at National Book Store there, but I haven’t seen any interesting fiction. Actually, I was disappointed, they have fewer titles available there. But I have seen a copy of “Water For Elephants”. So if you live in Baguio and you are looking for a good book, I suggest you buy it. And speaking of books, I have finished “A Long Way Down” by Nick Hornby last Tuesday. I didn’t enjoy the book. Now, I’m reading Khaled Hosseini’s latest book, “A Thousand Splendid Suns.”

The next day, Sunday, I didn’t join my parents to go to the market. I only told them to buy me strawberries. And look at this:

Strawberry

That’s the biggest strawberry that I have ever seen… and ate! And then, we ate lunch in the villa because it was still raining. And that’s all.

It’s not an interesting trip. Oh, I have heard that we’ll be going there again this coming October. I just hope when we will go there again, it will not rain.

I’ve recently updated my WordPress installation to 2.3. There might be some bugs lurking around. If you have seen one, please report them. By next week, I’ll sit my final exams. Wish me luck. Ah, I can’t wait for the sem-break!

  3. Here in Pampanga, you will only see taho vendors during the morning, and not in the afternoon. []

Tired.

Last week was a very long week to me because of my midterm exams. But that’s not all, last Monday, we still had two examinations. And even our exams were over, we were not yet allowed to breath freely because we had so many things to do.

I was only able to take a very nice sleep again yesterday even though I was not yet allowed to because of a test we had today in one of my major subjects. Today, I can have another good sleep even though tomorrow will be the second part of our midterm exam in English. Unlike my blockmates, I’ve memorized the poems I chose (Robert Frost’s “The Road not Taken”1 and an excerpt from “The Libation Bearers”2 by Aeschylus) days ago before our midterm exams started so I don’t have to worry about it too much.

Tomorrow will be the first death anniversary of my grandfather. Likewise, my uncle and aunt will arrive tomorrow from USA. That means, we’ll go to the airport3. So there are only slim chances that I will be able to go online tomorrow. During the weekend, I will not be at home because of the death anniversary of my grandfather. Actually, the rites will still be on Saturday, we have to wait for our relatives and everybody has work or have to go to school tomorrow.

Ah, even though I have plenty of free time, it’s still limited. Time is gold. I have to go now. I need to pack my things for school and for the succeeding days, my notebook included.

Bowling class again tomorrow! Oh no! I’m sure by Saturday, my body will be aching again. Oh, I’ll just read your blogs during the weekend!

  1. My favorite poem. []
  2. It was used as an epigraph in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows []
  3. Care to meet me there? Lol! []

Ooohhh… an update!

During my high school days, I was only walking the distance between my school and our home. It’s not a big deal to me, (if my calculations are correct) it’s only a quarter of a kilometer away; I can arrive at my destination in less than five minutes.

Sometimes, due to some reasons, we were going out of school, like competitions and community work. My school has no bus; instead, my school rents a jeepney from a very prominent person in my school. And in turn, we, the passengers have to pay a certain amount of money. We even jokingly named the jeep Apung (lola in Tagalog, grandma in English) [insert the name of that prominent person whose name starts with the letter "A"] Airlines or [insert the name of that prominent person whose name starts with the letter "A"] Express, AAA and AE for short.

Okay, let me describe the jeepney. It’s a prehistoric jeepney. I mean, it’s very old. If I’m not mistaken, 14 people plus two plus the driver, 17 in all can be in that jeepney at once. For sure, you will be knee-to-keen with the person sitting in front of you. It’s always driven by a man whom I know as “Mr. Brown Eyes” and he has to sit with his feet on his side just so he can fit. And from what I heard from my classmate, its wiper is ran manually.

But now, an hour’s drive is needed (if you’re going to transport by jeepney) so I can go to school. Every street is a terminal for the jeepney drivers! They stop whenever they see people on the pavement, what’s more is that these people are not waiting for a jeepney, they’re crossing the road. Plus you can smell smoke!

Just a quick thought… do you already know that the words “tsokoleyt”, “laybrari”, “smayl”, “navigeysyon”, “senter”, and the like are already accepted in Filipino? Yeah, I know, they sound baduy and if you will come to think of it, it’s as if a grade school pupil who has no idea on how to spell these words correctly decided to spell these words based on how we pronounce them. During my high school days, I and my friends always spell English words like these and we laughed at them because they were spelled in a way that you will recognize the errors as soon as you see the word, not knowing that the words that we were laughing at are accepted in Filipino.

I repeat, they’re accepted!

My agenda this week…

  • I’m planning to go to my previous school tomorrow… alone! I asked some of my classmates but they’re not free.
  • Our prelims will start on the day after next! And here I am blogging! Bad news for me, they decided to move our prelims next week!
  • We have a meeting on Friday regarding on our first issue of our college newsletter (or whatever you want to call it) this academic year. And my news article is not yet finished! My article looks like a test paper… I mean, it has blanks here and there! Lol! Fill in the blanks? Yeah… that’s because I still don’t know the other information of the event that I’m documenting.

Surprise!

This post is consisting of many topics…

I thought my father will be arrive here in the Philippines on the first day of February. My father don’t want us to know that he’s actually coming tomorrow! I thought I can still tell him to buy me some Nicholas Sparks’ books. It’s okay… I can go to our library and borrow them. Tomorrow, we will clean our home and remove all Christmas decorations. Yeah, Christmas is finaly over here at our place… lol.

We just finished our third quarterly exams. We’re free at last! Lol. Me and some of my friends went to the mall. One of my classmates treated us because it’s her birthday tomorrow. And I was not able to see MG because, one, my classmates don’t like it and two, it’s not yet showing! Lol! I think I will not be able to see it in the big screens. How sad. I’ll just try to read the book and try not to be bored.

In two weeks time, Asteeg.Net will celebrate its first year anniversary! I already started to revamp some of my pages and I’ll try to add some more. Btw, I’m still thinking if I’ll move this blog to a directory that you won’t know because I need some privacy. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know if I will. Oh, my used bandwith for this month is almost 1GB. I will be removing the themes. Sorry.

Tomorrow is going to be the fight of Manny Pacquiao and Eric Morales. I think Manny will not win. No ofense my dear Filipinos. Don’t get me wrong… I don’t support Eric but I recon Manny will not really win. [EDIT] Manny Won! Woot! [/EDIT]

That’s all for now.
