10 Years from Now

Today is the third anniversary of the blog that you are currently viewing. Yes, Asteeg.Net is three years old. I renewed my site last month through bank deposit1. As of now, I’m not thinking if I would migrate to a new domain. And I guess, I would not dare to leave this site again2. This site has been my home in the Internet for three years and it has been a part of my life. So why buy a new one?

I was in the church this afternoon to hear mass when a question suddenly popped in my head… What would become of us in the next ten years? I almost laughed hard in public when I thought of that. I was glad that I didn’t. Just imagine what will the people in the church would think about me. As you all know, I’m a Harry Potter fan and one of the things that I realized in reading the series about death is that the unknown is what we fear, and not death itself. But in this case, the unknown makes me excited.

I can’t help but imagine that some of us would be married by 2018, and maybe, we would have our own children at that time. And for those who have already their own children, they would be old enough to have their own blogs. I can’t wait to see Neil to be successful in life. Would the Filipinos dominate the blogosphere? Would Yohan, the son of Ms. Rachel will have his own blog? Is there going to be a new term for blogs? When would I be able to join the TriNoma Blogger Food Tour? Lol! Would I be able to meet those bloggers that I admire? When would I be able to use my real name here again? Would we know the real identity of Dan Hellbound? When would my effing style in writing change? Would Asteeg.Net still exist 10 years from now? And the seven million jackpot question… Would we still be updating our blogs by that time?

These questions are currently boggling me. I want to know the answers to these questions, but of course, we would not be able to know them until the right time would come. I’m sure, even Ma*Damn Tusha3 and her electronic tarot cards would not be able to predict what is in store for us in the coming years. And besides, if we would know them at this point, the future will be spoiled and the element of excitement would not be there.

Of course, the future can wait. What we have to do now is to enjoy the present and let our past lead us to the future.

Abangan na lang natin ang mga susunod na kabanata (Let’s just wait for the next chapters.).

*Raises glass for Asteeg.Net*

PS: I’m still thinking if I would have my own contest and give the winner a domain as a prize. I’ll just keep you all updated!

  1. I was wearing my school uniform on that day and the teller could not believe that I am a second year college student. She thought that I was only a high school student. Actually she asked me about three times if I’m a college student. []
  2. I almost lost this site last year. I moved to a new domain but I was enlightened that this domain is where I should stay. []
  3. She’s a fictional character that I and some of my friends have created back in our high school days. []

My Dearest Blog,

It’s so nice to see you in a brand new look. Sorry, but I really abhor your previous outfit. It’s out of the latest trend.

Let me take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: to Jochen for the beautiful photo, makeup and hair, to The Inspiration Gallery for the amazing background, shoes, shirt and pants. I also want to thank Notepad for always being there when I needed you. Even if you’re not that fancy and sophisticated, you proved to me that you are simple yet spectacular. Furthermore, I want to acknowledge Adobe Photoshop CS2 for being friendly with me. And to everybody else who — in one way or another — made my dearest blog possible, thank you!

Moving on, what I like with your new get-up is the top fluid part. It made you possible to shamelessly plug my social network accounts. (And to everybody out there, add me to your profiles!) I’ve noticed that you’re using the primary colors plus green and black. I’m not sure if the color combination is good (any reaction, guys?). And oh, you have a link to ProudlyPinoy.org now! That’s cool!

[EDIT] I’ve tried to view you in your new outfit in Firefox, IE7.0, and Safari (in 1280×800 screen resolution) and I haven’t seen anything wrong with you. I bet you also look good even in other previous versions of the said browsers and even in other screen resolutions. [/EDIT]

I can still remember that you kept on changing your clothes during your first year. You looked as if you were one of the performers in the Quick Change1 act which you can view here:

But now, because I’m so busy, I can’t look new clothes for you as often as before. I don’t even have a clue when I will be able to shop clothes for you. Oh, can you still remember how many times you have changed outfit since you were born? I have already lost track of it.

Well, more power to you!

Your Owner,
Christian Evangelista

Two days ago, I received my first ever letter from an online friend. And she’s none other than Tammy. Thank you very much!

PA - E01: A Pair of Pear

Download mp3

Oh! Look! This is the first episode of Podcasteeg. Well, I still haven’t achieved my preferred accent and my voice really sucks, but I have decided to do this because I want to try it. I had fun doing it.

I used Audacity to and my built-in microphones on my notebook to record this episode. I haven’t used any music because I don’t want to breach any copyright law. Anybody knows where I can download GPL music? And if you have a suggestion on mind, please tell me about it.

Forgive me for the wrong grammars that I have commited, and my awful and horrible voice.

Transcript

Hello and welcome to the first ever episode of Podcasteeg. This is Christian Evangelista of Asteeg.Net, that’s A-S-T-E-E-G-dot-N-E-T. So, uh, today’s 07.07.07 or July 07, 2007. Lucky day? Uh… no, I don’t think so. Uh, though seven is favorite number, I still don’t think that this is a lucky day. Neither numbers nor dates dictate our luckiness. I still think that it’s still up to you if you would want this day to be lucky or not.

Okay, moving on, uh, well, school is crazier nowadays. Everything is different. As what one of my ex-blockmate had said, if in our first year, it is us who make our selves stressed, now, the sight of our school is enough to make you feel stressed. What’s more is that in two weeks time, ya, two weeks time or 14 days, we will already have our prelims. and that spells B-U-S-Y, and that’s busy! Well, at least, I’m enjoying my English class right now. Uh, currently, we’re on phonetic transcription or whatever you call it. Our professor told us that it is easy, ya, I think it is. But sometimes, it can be a bit confusing, especially if you don’t know how to pronounce words correctly. For example, the words S-T-A-I-R and S-T-A-R-E are supposed to be pronounced the same. That’s stair and stare. Why are you staring at the stair? Likewise, with the words P-E-A-R and P-A-I-R. So that’s pair and pear. She ate a pair of pear. Yes, I know it’s crazy. Our instructor also told us that the word C-O-M-P-I-L-A-T-I-O-N is supposed to be pronounced as compilation and not compilation, again, that’s compilation. Uh, the word T-U-I-T-I-O-N on the other hand, is supposed to be pronounced as tuition.

And now, let’s talk about the Harry Potter fever. On July the 11th, that’s a Wednesday, yes, a Wednesday, the fifth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released in the country. I don’t know if I would be able to watch the movie on the 11th because I’m supposed to be in school until 5pm on that day and my class on the following day will start at 7am. So, there’s only a little possibility that I’ll be able to watch it on that day. Nevertheless, I’m planning to watch it two times on the big screen. Uh, the first time I’ll watch it, I suppose, I’ll be alone, yes, alone because I don’t want to be interrupted with tremendous amount of questions while watching it. And on the last time, I’ll be watching it with my friends or with my family. And on the 21st, the last Harry Potter book entitled harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released. I can’t wait to have it on my hands. I’m getting excited! The problem is that I still haven’t reserved a copy and the book costs around PHP 1500. I guess, I’ll pay for it in cash on the release date. Well, seriously, I don’t have any theory on who will die and who will survive, but I hope Harry would still be alive at the end of the book. This is going to be good July to remember!

Well, I suppose, that’s all for the first episode of Podcasteeg. See you next time if there is a next time. Again, this is Christian Evangelista and don’t forget to leave your comments.

New IP for Asteeg.Net

A few days ago, the server where Asteeg.Net is currently hosted had a scheduled maintenance. A new IP was set for Asteeg.Net. That means, depending on your ISP, it could take 24 to 48 hours for the site to propagate. There’s a big chance that you would have problems visiting the site from this period, especially if your ISP is as stupid as ****.

Asteeg.Net was not hacked or whatsoever.

This also applied to my hostees.

My Site and Miss Universe 2007

Asteeg.Net

According to the statistics Google Analytics has complied for me since the 10th of May last year, 50.22% of my visitors are using Mozilla Firefox as their browser and 45.29% are using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. I expect that in the next couple of years, more Internet Explorer users are going to switch to Firefox. It is more secure than Internet Explorer and there are so many things that you can do with it. As for traffic sources, I was shocked to see that only 24.04% of my visitors visited my site directly, the remaining 75.96% were able to go here from referring sites and search engines.

That’s how will be my site would look like when I’ve already fixed the CSS. Um, anybody out there who would want to help me finish it? I’m lazy to fix it. Whenever I start to fix it, I always get frustrated and end up doing other things.

If you’re using Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 7.0, you can now search my site without even visiting it. I created my own add-on. If you want to install and try it, click the button that’ll display your installed search engines on your browser and choose “Add Asteeg.Net”.

Miss Universe 2007

Congratulations to Ms. Japan for winning the crown. There was no suspense at all when they proclaimed Ms. Japan as the winner. That really sucks.

Ms. Philippines, Ana Theresa Licaros bagged the Miss Photogenic award. Okay, how many times did the Philippines got this award? Lol. Congratulations Ms. Licaros!

Oh, the candidate from Korea was beautiful, and did you see Ms. USA slipped?
