An Open Letter

To Whom It May Concern:

I’m really depressed. Until now, I cannot believe that you marked my essay with “Lifted article?”. Never in my entire life I plagiarized an essay or any literary piece just so I can have something to pass. What I have passed to you was my original work. It was conceptualized, drafted, and revised two times by me, your student.

What I don’t really understand is that you marked my essay like that without even confirming it with me if it was a plagiarized article. You should have asked me first before doing so. I tell you, this one really made my day sour. And because of this, I wasn’t able to concentrate much with the examinations I sat today. It devastated my morale.

I don’t have any idea what made you conclude like this. But if you based my ability to write the article in question from the previous essay you asked us to submit (which is one of the worst articles I have written this year), of course, my second essay would look like as if it was written by somebody else for me or it was copy and pasted from the Internet.

Yes, there is really a fluctuation with the quality of my literary works. This blog will prove you that. But I tell you, once inspiration hit me, I can write such piece (I don’t mean to show-off).

I’m not sure, but it looks like you don’t trust me which makes me sad. Nevertheless, I hope this scandal will be resolved. I cannot really accept to be labeled as a plagiarist. Because of this, I rummaged my room for my drafts. Luckily, I found them. I hope they are enough to prove to you that my essay is an original and not a derivative of any work. I also want to include here that I don’t mean to offense you or something. It’s just that I’m telling nothing but the truth.

Respectfully Yours,
Christian Evangelista

PS: I related this to some of my blockmates and they disclosed to me that their articles were lifted from somewhere else. How come my work was the one that was marked with “Lifted article?”?

EDIT: This issue has been resolved, thank God. :)

Road Signs

“Two roads diverge in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both”

These are the first two lines from the poem “The Road Not Taken” written by the famous American poet, Robert Frost.

Yes, it is hard to decide which road to be taken even there are only two choices. But what if on your way, you met a fork that has three, four, five or more prongs to choose from? For sure, things will be more complicated since there are too many choices to consider; you can’t just take a road without thinking. It might be the road that will change your life forever that’ll make you regret in the end.

We make decisions anytime, anywhere. Actually, we make decisions everyday. Sometimes we choose the wrong path… I know, some of us tend to go back and start allover again but sad to say, many of us forget that we can still go back and start again from the beginning to mend the things that we had messed. Even though we meet dead ends here and there we should not lose our hope.

If there are decisions that we cans still change, there are also roads that are difficult to escape from, as if you entered a labyrinth and can’t find the exit no matter what you do or you’re on a one way road that’ll not let you go back. These are the things that you can’t change forever. This occurs especially if you took shortcuts and dark alleys while taking the right path. As what they say, “Laging nasa huli ang pagsisisi.” We will only regret it once we’re running out of gas, once we are already lost.

I hope there are stop signs or slow down signs in the wrong roads so we can think twice and that they are not one way so if we choose to change our decision we can take a u-turn easily.

There are also times that while we are taking the right path we have to take detours and such. These detours are contrast to shortcuts — these will make our lives harder… a longcut if I may say. No matter how rocky or steep the road you took maybe and if you know that you’re on the right track, do not back out! Why choose one of those shortcuts if they will make your future disastrous?

Graduation is very near, I hope each and everyone of us will choose the right path. For now we should part ways, but in the end, I know, we will meet again… in the Finish Line.

PS: I think this one will be published in our official school publication. I still have to pass this article to our moderator. This was published in our official school publication. It appeared in my column (this is the second and final article that appeared in my column, BTW. LOL) entitled “Restricted Mind.” Did you like it… eh?
