Time is Silver
Wikipedia defines time management as “a range of skills, tools, and techniques used to manage time when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals.” Everyone has it, some would have a better one, others would have a not-so-good one. I always thought that I managed my time efficiently, but looking back, I think it is malfunctioning.
Why? Because one of the best things on earth is one of my favorite activities, procrastination. And we all know that procrastination is the worst enemy of time management. No matter how I try to focus on the activity that I should be doing, I always get sidetracked by something. During the middle of reviewing my notes for a major exam, I would always find myself reading an article in the Internet, worse, watching a TV show (because that means I have to give up around 40 minutes for that).
For the past three semesters, in the papers that my instructors required me to do, there was this part where I had to write my insights after completing the research paper. Aside from the usual babble I wrote there (e.g.: W means X, hence Y must be done to have Z), there was always a paragraph somewhere in the end regarding time management, that I had learned that time management was a crucial ingredient for the research paper to be completed. That paragraph has become so generic that when I had to accomplish a new paper, all I did was to copy-paste it. Those were just empty words. They were only there for the purpose of making my paper longer and trying to impress whoever was checking my work.
Nowadays, when I try to manage my time, I make sure that I allocate time that is more than what is enough for leisure. Every few minutes, I would need to have a distraction. Procrastination keeps me sane, just like what an antipsychotic drug would do to a person who has schizophrenia. The only good thing about this schematic is that I get to beat my deadlines but I always have to run and get so much stress towards the end. Somewhat, my time management is working, although I should have it fixed.
Come to think of it, I should not consider time is gold. However, I could consider it silver.
I’m a beginner at time management so I could very well relate to your post. hmmm… coffee goes well with procrastination. it can keep you going for hours on end to catch up on things you left off due to distraction. hurhurhur.
