Being a Four-eyed Man
I’m not really a fan of Filipino soaps. But my family is, especially my grandmom and aunt. They love any telenovela that has Juday as its protagonist who gets slapped, followed by a gunman, involved in a car accident, and anything that is gruesome which makes the antagonist die in joy. What I’ve noticed in such TV programs is that when a bespectacled old character saw something and wants to make sure he or she saw the right thing, the character would remove his or her spectacles in disbelief. Do you really have to do that? I mean you’re wearing specs to correct your defective eyesight and if you removed your eyeglasses, you would have a hard time to see clearly, right? I just really find it weird.
So why am I talking about such stupid observation? Well, yesterday, I was able to force my Dad to buy me a new spectacles. My last prescription glasses was made back in the second half of 2006. I really wanted a thick-rimmed glasses but as what my father had predicted, I look weird with them. So I’m stuck with a half-moon rectangular spectacles (but they’re not perfect rectangle) made from metal.
Being a four-eyed man can be sometimes frustrating. There are things that you can’t do correctly with your eyeglasses on. Uh, I can’t think of a situation that I can use as an example or am I just imagining things? Haha. And of course, it’s expensive. The frame costs around Php 5000, and that’s just the frame. The lenses can also be costly especially if you want multi-coated lenses (just like me) to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Plus, you need regular visits with your ophthalmologist. But at this point, I can’t part with my glasses. Whenever I use a computer or watch TV, I badly need to wear my spectacles, otherwise, I’ll get dizzy.
Uh, if I were you, I would not dream of wearing eyeglasses. Haha. I want a 20/20 vision!

A lot of this in Filipino soaps don’t make any sense, like the cat fights and the unnecessary/awkward dialog between characters. I think they’re more stage actors than theater actors.
I have sight problems myself that’s been growing steadily worse over the years but I don’t think I have health insurance to get my eyes fixed or for glasses.

I dunno why - I read a lot, I watch movies a bit, and I read A LOT, but my eyes are so far free and clear from all those astigmatisms and dizziness and the like.
I LOVE SOAPS FOR ALL BUT THE SAME TWISTS: Amnesia. I think those directors need to GROW UP and think about lobotomy of some sort. Haha.
Half-moon like Dumbledore, eh?

I wear glasses too. Its really annoying when my face gets oily and the glasses slide down. LOL. Plus you can’t bring your glasses when you’re snorkeling or when you’re doing sports.

@Sherica: Myopia + ASTIGmatism.

Alam ko na kung bakit Asteeg ang pangalan ng blog mo… ASTEEGmatism. Lol. Ako rin may astigmatism eh. Pero sabi nung doctor, bawal pa daw ako mag-glasses. Ayoko ngang mag-glasses noh. Magmumuka akong ewan. Haha!

Yeah I know
. The glasses thing gets to me too.
I usually don’t wear my glasses but I put them on when I need to see something more clearly. in soaps they do it the other way round.

I don’t like wearing glasses, so I do what I can to take care of my eyes.

Judy Ann is quite controversial these days lol
Anyway, waaah that expensive?
lol I remember I used to use having a poor eyesight to sit in front row back during my HS days. lol
June 17, 2008 @ 6:32 pm
Magpa-laser eye surgery ka kaya? Nah. It’s way too expensive. Haha

The gesture’s obviously for emphasis. What’s your vision?
June 17, 2008 @ 10:21 pm
baka naman near-sighted yung nagtatanggal ng salamin.

I’ve been getting headaches lately and I think I need to take a visit to the ophthalmologist. I have a feeling it has something to do with my eyesight. Probably due to too much time on the computer.

I wear glasses and I, too, wish I had perfect vision. I recently got prescripted sunglasses though… it’s pretty awesome!

I’ve always thought that soaps were one of the most retarded things ever, whether they’re Filipino soaps or not.

In contrary to popular belief, astigmatism(at least in most cases) is actually inherited.
Luckily, I don’t really look bad wearing thick-rimmed glasses, kaso sabi lang sa akin ng tita ko, mukha daw akong Koreana nung nagpalit ako ng specs. I, too need to use my glasses often. it’s not that I can’t see. I can still see decently at mid-range but yun nga, my eyes easily get tired when I’m not wearing them.
Movies/Soaps have a weird depiction of people wearing glasses. Tipong parang bulag kahit manipis yung lens. Kakapa-kapa yung glasses. heck, kahit papaano naman makikita mo yung figure! LOL
Funny how I thought that wearing glasses was a fashionable thing but now that I’m wearing glasses, I don’t really like it. Mahirap magkape. have to remove it because of the steam. Jeje
