Of Time and Hostage Drama

NOTE: Around 40% of this post is written in Tagalog.

Last week, when I had my oral defense in Philosophy, I was asked what my philosophy in life is. I remembered what my teacher said, “You can summarize your philosophy in a quote.” So I quickly said that time is very important (instead of time is gold).

My blockmates laughed when I said that. I suppose they laughed because they know that I’m very strict with the time. If it was set that we’ll have a meeting at 10 o’clock, expect me to be in the meeting place thirty minutes before ten. And I end up, most of the time, waiting for around 1.5 hours in the meeting place just so the people that I have to meet to arrive. I’m not the one whom you’ll wait for. In the contrary, I’m the one who waits. But I don’t say that I’m always on time, there are times that I’m late for an event or whatsoever, especially if there are factors that are way beyond my control.

For somebody like me, I can’t afford to lose time. Time is more precious than gold to me. Twenty-four hours is not enough.

I’m just so glad that it’s already our vacation. I’m glad that I have plenty of time to do things that I want to do. I have so many plans for this website, now that I have 1.5 GB of space.

Have you seen the news about the hostage drama here in the Philippines? What a shocker! Thirty-one Twenty-six children and four teachers were held as hostages for almost ten hours! And would you believe that the alleged leader of this hostage drama, Jun Sucat, is the owner of the daycare center where these 31 26 children have been enrolled for a year? It’s very ironic isn’t it? What’s more, his motive for doing this hostage crisis was only that he wanted his students to have support for their education of at and housing for them and their families. To make it more ironic, he said, “I love these kids.”

What I can say is that what he did was wrong. There are so many other ways how he can get what he wants. But making this kids as collateral? That’s way too stupid.

Kaso, Chavit? Bakit siya nandoon?

It was not clear however what SingsonÂ’s connection was with Ducat.

PDI

I’m just glad that this hostage crisis is over — after almost ten hours and no one was badly hurt.

If you want to know more about this breaking news, you may want to go to INQ.net, or even CNN.com, but mind you, the local media, in this case, is more comprehensive.

  1. I view time as important, but I’d be kidding myself if I go to a meeting place on time.

Actually, there were thirty two children involved. One was released earlier than the others because he was having a fever. As for being “ashamed” of what he did, here’s my answer to that. Yes, what he did was wrong, but geez, I don’t know why everyone’s so worried on how others look at us eh tayo naman ang involved dito. Kapwa Pinoy mo nga minamaliit ng iba pang Pinoy at walang nakikialam, what more kung ibang tao pa? I couldn’t care less how the world sees the Filipinos. F*ck them for all I care. This just proves the inferiority complex of some Filipinos. What Ducat did was wrong, but at least he got his point through, loud and clear — unlike the less successful attempts to air out their grievances to the government.

Heck, why aren’t they (or even you) express that they’re “ashamed” that every international human rights group and people’s tribunal try to solve the widespread political killings, and even insinuate that the government has something to do with it, while the administration just blames the Reds. Na ang gov’t just tries to cover up instead of actually looking into the case.

Etong nangyari? I’m very very very sure na hindi lahat ng tao ang tingin sa nangyari ay masa. Remember that the purpose is noble; it’s just that the means is wrong.

  2. Hindi ko ma-edit comment, but anyway, it should be

  3. Singson is sooo pa-bida. As if naman mananalo siya sa eleksyon sa ginawa niyang yun. Filipinos are not as stupid as he think he is.

I agree with Shari, I for one do think that what he did is not that bad. I guess he ran out of options because no one is listening to what he is trying to say.

  4. I was listening to the news about the hostage taking kaninang umaga, mga 6? lol, because I had to get up early for my baccalaureate mass. hindi dapat pumunta si chavit dun, kasi may rules ata na bawal makipag usap ang ibang tao except lang sa mga trained na negotiators. imbis na pulis ang makakuha nung bomb, si chavit pa ang may hawak. pero inamin DAW ni ducat na walang detonator yung bomba, kaya maski mawalan yon ng pin, hindi sasabog.

para sakin kasi, i feel sorry for Filipinos kasi ang hirap na ng buhay and wala parin nangyayari. sana naman dahil sa nangyaring yun, maski konti, magbago ang sistema at medyo mag reach out pa sa maraming lugar yung government natin. ang daming in poverty sa pinas, pero wala eh. wala masyadong may puso na pulitiko na gagawa ng paraan.

and about “time is gold”, rofl, buti ka pa you always arrive early. when me and my barkada should meet up at 8, they would be there around 7:30 and I would arrive around 9. lol. gigising palang ako ng 8. =D

oh yes, is it okay if I link you?

I’m sure ginawa niya lang yun to gain more votes this election, as if naman, boboto pa rin siya ng tao. DUH?!

Hmm, parang V for Vendetta yung nangyaring hostage taking. LOL.

  6. I’m like you, I’m the one who usually waits for the rest. So I also think time is important…

That guy did the wrong thing if he was going to try to change things… There are so many other ways to do it…

I highly doubt he wanted to kill the children. Baka matanggal lahat sila sa pwesto for not negotiating. :p

Janna: Hehe shemps kelangan magpabango siya! :p

It’s a pity that one has to resort to violence just to get the attention of those freakazoids in the palace. Such a shame….

Twas pathetic. Since it’s the second time around he did a hostage taking…he must have some psychological disturbances. His principle is noble, but the channel is so wrong. Very wrong. People always find an “excuse” to do something that is not right.

The Philippines and Filipinos themselves are a laughing stock.

Now the fear here is that since the gov’t gave in to his demands…malamang maraming future hostage taker ang gumaya sa style niya.
