Hate of Wisdom

Let me start this by saying I hate Philosophy. The subject itself… and our instructor (whom I’ll call Mr. Rene in this entry). As what I had put in my mind from the first day that I learned that I am going to take this subject, it will really ruin my career. I am absolutely dreading about this subject. I am frightened that I would get my first line of seven grade after four or five years of having no line of seven mark, worse my very first failed mark. Mr. Rene is very weird; everything about our him is weird. His subject, his face, the way he teaches, the type of question he gives during quizzes, etcetera, etcetera.

Last week, Mr. Rene was already fifteen minutes late. And according to my blockmates, it’s written somewhere that if a professor is already fifteen minutes late that means he or she won’t enter the class. Thinking that he won’t enter our class, as he had already skived our class a few times last year, we decided to go home. But we concluded it wrong, approximately fifteen more minutes later, he texted some of our classmates that he’ll enter our class. Alas, I and my other two classmates were already on a jeepney by that time.

Luckily for some of my blockmates, they were still in school by the time the information was disseminated. Some went back to school from the malls. Another one that already got home and changed her clothes had to wear her uniform again and go back to school.

My classmates reported that after an astounding fifty minutes, he popped from nowhere! The bottom line is that they did nothing! They just chatted! And now, ladies and gentlemen, congratulate me for ditching my class for the very first time!

Well, a philosopher (I forgot the name) said “Change is mere illusion.” And it’s just one of the philosophies of the effing philosophers that I don’t believe. We’re not expected to believe these philosophies, as some1 don’t suit us. What I can say about this is that we have our own philosophies… so why study this boring and hateful subject? Argh!

I don’t really know how that philosopher with a peanut for a brain said that. So he or she thinks that if a thing was moved to another place a change has not occurred? How stupid is that?

From time to time, we — all of us change. Be it physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

On a side note, even actors and actresses change! Daniel Radcliffe, the Harry Potter star has decided to play nude2 as Alan in the play Equus after preserving his wholesomeness in the Harry Potter movies. I still can’t believe that he took the offer knowing for a fact that he has not yet reached the legal age.

And as for a change, I decided to use this layout from N. Design Studio. I decided to use this layout because I barely have time to do a new layout. And expect more of these!

Who does not change? Would you please tell me how change is just mere illusion? Raise your voices and fill the comment form with your thoughts before it’s too late.

PS: I reckon my ISP has solved its problems.

  1. or many in my case []
  2. A photo of him had surfaced the internet where he was half-naked! Just don’t expect me to post it here. Haha. But you’re free to search them. A Potter fan site (or his official fan site) is a good site to start with. []

Effing ISP

I hate my ISP so much that I want to throw things at it! What they give is not just! You see, we’re paying for the service! Oh, don’t tell me to call the customer service as I really hate talking to people who work in that department. They tend to slow down things. They know what seems to be the problem but they won’t tell you.

So what’s my problem? I always see my site down for four consecutive days. I asked my host about it, and they said that there is no problem with their end. According to my host, my ISP might be suffering from “Selective Browsing” problems. I really hate it. I wanted to upgrade my two other WordPress installs but I can’t because of this. (At the moment, I could only access this blog)

Is there anybody out there who also experience this?

[EDIT] I just called the customer service hotline of my ISP. Mr. Customer Service Representative, with a very gloomy voice, as if he was going to cry any moment reckons that they don’t have any problems with their end also. He said that the servers where this site is hosted are the ones responsible for my problem, but I think he is wrong as I know somebody for a fact who can’t access my site also and I can access my site on other computers. He suggested that clearing my cache could solve my problem. I tried it but nothing happened. He also said that there might be some heavily encoded scripts in my site with JavaScript and all, but hey, it’s my site, I know what I put in my site. It’s been almost a year since I subscribed to this ISP and I only encountered such problem just now. It just really pisses me. Tomorrow, I’ll buy an internet card and I’ll try using it instead. And if it would work I’ll definitely call one more time. Oh, before I forget, it was so evident that Mr. Customer Service Representative was trying to slow down things as the pauses before he replies to each of my queries were long!

Hey! Customers are always right!

PS: No, I’m not on DSL and I have no plans to subscribe for any. I’m on a dial-up connection and I can still bear its slowness. Besides, for PHP 200.00 (or add a little more), I can spend countless hours connected to the internet. In short, unlimited! Saan ka pa? Haha! [/EDIT]

Faulty Schedule

Last Saturday, almost 12 hours of my precious time was wasted because of a faulty schedule. Instead of dedicating most of that time in doing dignityAKO.info, a members only site for my high school classmates, I was in school waiting for nothingness which made me end up spending the rest of that almost 12 hours in the mall.

So let me tell you how my Saturday was ruined by our NSTP instructor.

I was invited in the debut party of one of my high school classmates. No, it was not the elegant type of party where one has to go in a formal attire. The set up was this: go to Fontana Leisure Park at Clark Field, Pampanga and spend an almost sleepless night there. It’s very practical isn’t? The good part was that we had really a great time. A day before that, one or two of my blockmates asked him if we would have classes since the 2nd year nursing students in our university took NAT. Our instructor’s answer was yes.

But during the night before the day this unlucky incident happened, I had a doubt if our professor would stick with his word as he was absent the week before. Yes, you read that right, our teacher is skiving his classes with us! It’s not just my time that will be wasted if I would go to school and find out that he skived us again but also money, effort, and energy! So I did my schedule.

So the next day, after texting all of my blockmates in my phone book without any reply from them if we have classes, I decided to go to school with all the things that I needed during the overnight stay at Fontana. Boom! We did not even see our instructor’s shadow! He was nowhere to be seen. Out of boredom, I and my blockmates decided to play in our room but that’s another story.

After an hour or so, we decided to go as we were dead sure that our professor won’t see us. So I texted all of my high school friends if they were already in SM City Clark even though the meeting time is at 5:00pm (which turned out to be 8:30pm due to the Filipino time). And guess what… one of them decided to play a prank on me! She said that she’s already in the mall. So, I went there — call me stupid if you want. I was texting and texting and texting that person and she was not replying! After thirty minutes of waiting for her to reply while I was looking for a good book at National Bookstore, I ended up with a conclusion that it was a prank. That’s the silliest prank ever played on me. To make matters worse, until now, that person who played a prank on me have not yet replied whatsoever. I’m waiting for her message that says something like “Oh, I’m so sorry for that silly prank. I hope you’re not mad at me.” But it looks like that person has no intention to do so.

At kinarir ko na ang aking pag-iisa.

I ate alone at my favorite fast food, Tokyo Tokyo. I also ended up watching — believe it or not — KKK out of nothing to do.By the time the movie had ended, my classmates were not yet there so I scanned the books at the bookstore again. Luckily, I was able to find a copy of Young Blood3 and the Prestige. I even had the chance to read them before my friends had arrived.

When we arrived at Fontana, I was surprised to see that we were already complete. I suppose, they arrived there with their own wheels or they were fetched earlier as it’s impossible to get to Fontana without your own wheels, unless you have money to get there in a cab. It’s very ironic that I was the first to get into the meeting place and arrive last in the place where we had the party.

So what we did? Basically, we had fun! We even played go fish with some variations. And during the course of playing it, one of my classmates shouted “Punyeta ka! Punyeta ka!” The problem was that there were some older people in the living room by that time so they were shocked, particularly the mother of the debutant. And the rest of us? We were all laughing. Someone even commented “Oi! Wala ka sa dorm!”.

We decided to sleep at around 3:00am. And as the villa was crowded, I had to sleep in a table. Yes, in a table at the living room.

I’m so glad that I was able to spend some time again with my high school classmates. I really missed them so much. Once again, I was able to laugh hard freely. I’m glad that I was able to unleash my stress. Not like now in college, I can’t laugh as how I used to. Laughing now is a chore. I’m hoping that during the vacation somebody will invite me and my high school classmates for an overnight again.

Stem Cells: Solution to Diseases?

Last week, I and my blockmates attended a symposium about stem cells. I don’t know if you have heard of it. As for my case, it was my first time, and I got so interested with it that’s why I am going to talk about them. Pardon me if there are some flaws with this entry as I am new to this topic.

Let me start this entry by defining what stem cells are. Stem cells are cells that are common to us and other multi-cellular organisms. These cells have the ability to multiply and replenish themselves and grow into a wide range of specialized cell types.

As we all know, as we grow older, most of our cells renew and multiply themselves by a process called cell division. But some don’t. Cells in our hearts and brains lose their capability to multiply as time flies by. If no, our heads would be bigger than their normal size and our hearts would be bigger than our fists. And sometimes, these vital body organs get damaged. Thus, these body organs have the tendency to malfunction.

So here is where the stem cells come in. Basically, they can replace almost every part of your body. These could treat neurological diseases like ALS and Parkinson’s disease. These could also treat leukemia and cancer. Thus, making humans’ life span even longer. (But I am not saying that stem cells are now being used to treat all of these diseases nowadays.)

There are two categories of mammalian stem cells which are embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells.

The problem is that the first category, the embryonic stem cells which is way better than the latter is banned. Basically, it is banned because it needs to destroy an embryo. There are these cells in the inner cell mass of a early stage embryo known as a blastocyst which are scraped off, making the embryo unable to make all the cells in our body. These scraped cells are then cultivated where we can derive more than 220 cell types of the adult body. This what makes embryonic stem cells way better than the adult stem cells.

And here comes a big problem. We all know that before a man can be a fully human, we have to be an embryo first. And that means, if this would be done, a breach to the humans’ and God’s law have to be done. It is clearly stated that we cannot kill and as we all know, it is highly unethical to kill somebody just so we can gain something else. In other countries, the use of human embryos where these have to be either created or destroyed are strictly prohibited.

To date, no disease was cured with this first category.

With the latter one, the adult stem cells, there are some cases where patients were cured because of it. Adult stem cells are found throughout the body. Not like with the former one, this have limited capacity for cellular differentiation . We cannot make all the cells in the human body with this. As what the speaker had said, this is not as controversial as the first because this does not require the destruction of an embryo. It was also discussed that there were successful treatments especially with leukemia that cured the patient because of this.

Now, let me ask you a question, do you think this stem cell research is ethical or not?

What’s Your Favorite Pastime?

For you, you might say surfing the internet, watching TV, reading books, listening to music, or eating is your favorite pastime. Well, I just found out something that is better than those pastime listed above: sleeping!

Now that I am in college, now that I watch more TV programs even though some sucks, now that it takes me a long time to complete all the things that I have to do, now that I have to wake up during the wee hours of the morning just to get to school in time, I have to sacrifice my sleep.

During my high school days, my regular sleeping time was 21:00 and I wake up on 06:00, so all in all, I’ve got nine hours of sleep. But things have changed. Now, my average sleeping time is only about 6.5 hours and I am having a hard time to cope with it. I feel so tired at school and I feel so sleepy especially when I hate the subject.

Even during examinations, I sleep and wake up on the right time. Thanks God, my grades are good. I don’t review during the early hours of the day — sleeping is the best!

But as what they say, every problem has a solution. So now, I am trying to catch some sleep whenever I can. Just this afternoon, as my class was only up to 11:00, I slept, and now, I am fully charged again.

Well, it is not my studies that really eat my time for sleeping… it’s watching TV and surfing the internet.

Nowadays, I am always stocked surfing the internet and most of the time, even I don’t have anything to look, I still surf it. Do you get it? Whenever I try return comments, there are times where it takes me sometime to formulate whatever I will say. I can’t fully grasp the thing the blogger is trying to say. And in the end, out of frustration, I click the ‘X’ button. I don’t know why but when I am using a public computer, I can return comments as I used to.

I watch Princess Hours. Yeah. Lol. Whatever. If I am not mistaken, it’s the third soap that came from other countries in Asia that I like. Basically, I am watching it because it is hilarious. I am thinking if I would buy a pirated version of it because it’s in a time slot that is very late. The problem is that because it is in demand (as what my high school classmate told me) the price can get as high as PHP 250.00 which is way too expensive for a pirated copy. But then, I am sure, I can do some haggling.

I am so sorry for this post. There is really nothing worth to blog about.
