Rated PG13

I was browsing the Philippine Daily Inquirer yesterday and I found this spread (Super) with pictures of the PBB teen housemates minus Clare posed as caricatures of ‘this generation’. [EDIT] I’m not a PBB fan. [/EDIT] No, they were not the ones who caught my attention, it were the words “Teendependence day”.

Actually, there was only one article inside the spread titled “Drugs. Sex. Sloth. Please.” and here is the lead:

We decided to do a spread on what a lot of people say our generation is — apathetic, sex-crazy, media-obsessed, religionless drugies with parental issues and mondo insecurity.

Why? Because we can.

Pepe Diokno

And after a few more paragraphs…

We decided to do a spread what a lot of people say our generation is because we realize a lot of you read us to find out what’s cool and we need to tell you shouldn’t be doing that.

Because it’s never been about going with the flow and fitting in. It’s not about what’s in and out. It’s not about what you’ve tried and what you haven’t. We’re the ME generation — it’s about creating our own flows.

It’s about creating your own cool.

Pepe Diokno

I took some pictures of the spread that I’m talking about. The pictures are depicting the PBB teen housemates posed as caricatures so you can have more idea on what I’m talking about. Just click their names. Obviously, these pictures are not mine; I disclaim them. BTW, I did not include all of the caricatures, I only chose some.

Gerald, Kim and Mikee
I don’t understand why our generation loves having a relationship… and before you knew it, the couple in question had already broke up. Boys, girls are not puppets or paper dolls that you can play with. Girls, don’t be stupid! If you want to have a boyfriend so you can be ‘in’ or the guy you have a crush on is tall, dark and handsome, please, think again. Besides, infatuation is different from love. Don’t let yourself be controlled by puppeteers! If you want to have a relationship because you want to have an expereience on how does it feel to have a commitment to somebody, don’t proceed, otherwise you’ll be included in the long list of the relationships that lasted for only a week, or worse, a few days.

Matt
We should learn how to fight our depression and stress because this might lead to something worse. Like being a drug dependent or having friends that have bad intention. Share your frustrations to somebody, to your parents (but I think only a few teens do this) or to your friends (just be sure they’re good friends) or put them in your diary or blog. Actually, there are lots of ways to fight your depressions. Remember. there’s always a rainbow after the rain. And as what Mattie Stepanek says, remember to play after every storm.

Aldred
But after that… what? After waiting for days, weeks, months and years… when the president was already impeached including the senators, congressmen, governors, mayors and barangay tanods… what? What will happen to the foreign exchange?… PHP1000.00 to $1.00? What will happen to us? And most importantly, what will happen to our dear Philippines?

Brenda
Thanks to Dan Brown for opening the minds of the teenagers that there’s a monkey business that’s happening amongst the priests. His books should not be read by kids and teens that have a very weak faith. Also, his books should bear the word “fiction” in the cover. So people won’t ask if it’s true or not or a page separating facts from myth. One more thing, there are even some teenagers under the age of 18 that were able to see the movie version of DVC. I think we are looking for an excuse or a reason to question our faith… if there’s really a God. Oh, a rosary is not an accessory.

Jamila
Sex is not crackers that you can try or eat every week or everyday. Sex was not created for self-pleasure, to earn money or for experience only. If you had a child before marriage, don’t tell me or anybody else that you were not told about the consequences of your actions. Even street children know these consequences! Wait… even they know the consequences, they still try it. So does this means that most of us are mad (mental in other words)? I think so…

The word free in this country has another meaning especially to teenagers nowadays.

If we know our rights, we should also know our responsibilities.

I know, this post is about the bad side of being free, but let me greet you an advance Happy 108th Independce Day to all Filipinos out there!

Since I’m having a layout block at the moment. I decided to do some changes in this layout. I’m already getting bored with the previous layout. Oh, it’s the same map that you can see right now that I used in my last version. If you’re wondering what version is this… it’s 19.5. Lol.

  1. I don’t watch Pinoy Big Brothers or something something.. But just this entry really intrigued me.. about the modern generation.. Teendependence Day and all that… It’s like they got a point.. but still.. I dunno.

So you were also forced to go to Nursing?

  2. Tam

“If we know our rights, we should also know our responsibilities.”

This is what most Filipinos forget. Reklamo ng reklamo kung gaano kakurakot ang mga tao pero sariling basura sa bakuran di alam itapon ng maayos.

Ika nga ni Spiderman greatpower comes great responsibilty. the power here would be our rights, responsibility is yung mga responsibility natin sa society. Mga kabataan ngayon, nonchalat sa mga nangyayari sa paligid nila, pati na rin sa cultura. Sad, but true.

Everything is a two way process.

    *nonchalant, I mean

  4. I haven’t been browsing the Philippine Daily Inquirer lately, so yea, that spread has a point. What captured my attention were the pictures most specially the pics of Brenda and Jamilla. I just wish the 1000 convertion of a dollar will not happen in the country… oh well, the header is nice.. I actually don’t know how you did it but it’s really nice. ^_^
PS: buy your school supplies na! haha!

  5. hmm.. i disagree with some of ur thoughts, nonetheless, u do have a point, and a nice entry ^^ kip it up! ^^

Louie: I’m just wondering, in what of my thoughts you are disagreeing. Thanks for your compliment!

  6. I used to be an avid reader of the PDI, but then the Boobtube Booboos article comes rarely these past few years. I’m currently a fan of Manila Bulletin and

I don’t watch PBB. I don’t even know the people involved. Pero generally speaking, the article has a point. Iba talaga ang generation ngayon. Even us teeners who belong to this generation sometimes get sick because of the actions of our co-generation.

For teeners, love is a game that they should join in order to be with the “in” crowd. Wala na yung essence. It’s ok to give in to depression once in a while, but then, if you let problems beat you, then you’re the one who’d be the failure forever. Hmm, about The Da Vinci Code. It should be read by anyone who’s ready to read it. If a person’s faith is fragile but is ready to be faced with fiction presented as fact, then s/he should probably read it. Sometimes, it’s not completely a question of faith. If you know what you believe in, whatever happens, you’d still stand by it.

Yes, indeed, with rights come responsibilities that each and every one of us must comply with. The problem is that there are teeners who ignore their responsibilities. But then, one should probably know the darkness to come into the light.

Louie, thank you for your comment on my previous entry. I really appreciate it. It makes me feel that I’m not alone, ehehe. Kidding aside, it’s nice to know someone who can relate to what I’ve posted.

About me wanting to learn about my disease…Well..I just had to. It’s already a part of me. Knowing nothing about it won’t make it go away. The only things left to do is to acknowledge that it’s there and try to live with it. I have a huge possibility of having scoliosis because it runs in the family, and already I’m showing some symptoms. I try to deal with it. Medyo na-frustrate lang ako about the TB because I expected to go to school this term. Thankfully, with the negative result of my skin test, I can. The problem now is looking for subjects. Ugh.

Haha pareho tayo! Hindi mapirmi sa layout pag ni-release na. Laging beta. LOL!

  7. Oh i wasn’t able to read the Saturday edition of Daily Inquirer. I have to read that. Kinda interesting. I hope our sat newspapers are still here.

  8. Tagal ko nang di nagbabasa ng Inquirer, bad trip. At syempre, ang tiningnan ko ay kay Aldred. Yikee. :lolz:

  9. hehe i am not really a big fan of pbb teens or even the previous pbbs. wala lang. maybe i just didn’t want to care but no offense. i think they’re great anyway, they have the right to say whatever they want to say especially that the topic would be about their/our generation (shiz, im not that old) and ebcause everybody’s so much involve with drugs and sex, i am not going to refuse about that becasue I have some friends who are engaging into this kind of activity and because I am their friend, i let them do what they want to do, because I got tired of telling them the right thing. hahaa. but well, it doesnt mean that everybody should do it. WE SHOULDN’t because it’s not good. kahit baligtarin mo pa ang mundo, hindi pa rin mababago un.. still, hindi parin maganda ung magiging epekto at resulta nito sa mundo. :) shame it will be.

  10. Exactly. Majority of pinoy teens are forgetting the consequences of their actions and the importance of their responsibility. The worse thing is that …some choose to forget. Sad, huh.

  11. ok lang naman manood ng PBB. la lang minsan nakakaintriga nga naman pero syempre hindi lagi. paminsanminsan lang. hmmm i think i wanna post a picture of me para makita na medyo kamukha ko si mikee hehehe

  12. I read The Philippine Star and I rarely read PDI but the spread has a point(makes me wanna read it).”I donÂ’t understand why our generation loves having a relationship” This is so true.If having a boyfriend(just for the sake of having one) would make me cooler than ice.Haha. Never mind.

  13. I don’t know where to put this, so sorry Louie kung spam tong comment na toh…

I just want to thank you and give you a hug for the comment. :) Sa Tuesday (tomorrow) ko pa maaasikaso yung classes ko because Independence Day nga ngayon. I know, it sucks, but I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.

Decent hostees come in pretty rare noh? Lalo na when you want to host a Filipino/Filipina, eh knowing most new bloggers, and knowing you, hindi mo rin magugustuhan lalo na the way they blog. *hint hint* LOL. So I’m pretty thankful that those who apply for hosting are “decent” ones. Don’t worry, there are LOTS of talented people out there looking for a place to call home. I’m sure you’ll be able to find at least one. :)

  14. Hey, cool. Happy independence day. And salamat.

It’s been our third Super anniversary season, and for the past few weeks we’ve featured– and written about– different aspects of people our age. It’s what we’re about, actually, and we try to squeeze all this in every Saturday.

Hope you guys get to pick it up more. We’d love to hear from you. :)
    Pepe

  15. long time no visit here ah..musta na louie. anyways, nako alam ko naman di mo hilig ung ganun klaseng show eh. may kanya-kanya talaga tayong taste hihihi.

goodluck sa studies and paggawa ng layout

  16. Oooh! The pictures look great!

    Whatever…

Obviously, that article slash photo shoot was created just for publicity purposes…

    Sorry… I just abhor that show…

  17. And oh, I forgot…

Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan! Ipagbunyi ang ating kasarinlan! :-)

  18. Your posts never fail to surprise me. Yeah I’m back! Sorry for taking so long! Anyway, this would serve as my inspiration this June. Thank you ever so much for your analysis of stuff.

And that’s a number of versions!
