Irony

I love Math; I was the best in this subject during my senior HS days. And now, I dunno what’s happening to me. I was able to get a failing score in our test which according to our instructor is the easiest. Here are my theories why I failed that test:

  • During my HS days and even GS days we were thought that -22 is equal to four. And now, our instructor told us that it should be -4 and it will only be positive if it is (-2)2. See the difference? Sometimes, I still find myself confused about this. I need time to set my mind that -22 is equal to -4.
  • I was not practicing my Math skills during the holidays and now, I still need to condition my mind.

Now, where is my notebook during my last year in HS? I badly need it.

During the morning of this day, we had Chemistry (laboratory). Of all the branches of science, Chemistry is the branch I loathe most. I don’t really mind the computation part, besides, we are allowed to use calculator. But if you are talking about the memorization part, I’ve got a big problem; I hate memorization. And mind you, I still need to transfer my notes on a bond paper if I want to finish fast! I can hardly memorize if I’m memorizing directly from a book or notebook with all of the important terms underlined or marked plus some more notes scribbled on the margins of the book.

Guess what? Me and my group mates had a perfect score in our first ever lab experiment (and I think we were the only group who got top marks). Actually, I enjoyed it! I like the glass manipulation part where you have to bend glass tubing (of course, with the aid of fire).

Wow! I can’t believe that I found time to blog. You see, I have a very hectic schedule. Not like during my HS days, I can surf the internet everyday, even if we have major exams, but now, I think I can’t do that anymore. Time management is a must!

Oh, my parents asked me to look for an apartment near the university that I’m currently attending. Everyday when I arrive home, I already feel sleepy, thus, I can’t do much during evening and obviously, I can’t stay awake up to 11:00pm (my usual sleeping time during the holidays). And when I wake up I have to rush because I still have to allot 1.25 hours or else, I will be late (yeah, the university that I’m currently attending is 1.25 hours away from our house). You see, It’s not normal for me to commute everyday for 2.5 hours because during the six years of my school life, I only walk the distance between our house and school. But I haven’t started looking for one, besides, I can’t also find a friend who can bunk with me. Oh, don’t ask me to look for a dormitory instead because I don’t want to sociallize with other people especially if they’re a few years older than me.

A commenter has this to say about my last post:

…First you “hide” your blog away from the prying eyes of the web and now youÂ’re torturing innocent bloggers…

The first paragraph in my preceding entry is intentionally for the spammers out there but what made you say that? I’m sorry I was not able to include that. I can’t even think of an incident that I tortured innocent bloggers. I think you missed my entry explaining why I decided to make my blog public again (or did I forget to explain these?). Well, my reason is that I still get spam comments…

…You type so much honesty in your entries that you need an honest to goodness comment as well. I know lots of bloggers are out there to plug and promote their site, but come on, give them some slack!…

Pardon me if I’m getting a bit franky but I did not create this site nor spend my own money for plugging. This is not a site for plugging. This is my site and space in the internet, in other words, I have the control over it.

But still, I want to thank you for your complements:

…DonÂ’t take this personally. ItÂ’s my two cents for you. Keep writing, I look forward to even more interesting entries. …

  1. indeed an irony. that’s a bit normal…like, i always need to refresh my memory. AKo rin, i hate memorization..hina utak ko bro. Hihihi.

well about the (-2)^2…i asked my teacher before.

i dunno if i remember it right pero its like this :
-2^2 is like saying -1(2)^2 kaya magiging -4. Something like that. Hehehe.

  2. Oh! Oh! I do know the explanation for that. Yung sa may parentheses, the law of multiplication suggests that (-) times (-) should be equal to (+), kaya +4 ang answer. Without the parentheses, you multiply the base with the exponent FIRST before you append the sign, kaya 2×2= 4, then add the sign, so -4. :-)
I think you’re still in the adjustment period pa. You know, the transition from hs to college. Take it easy. :-)
Hmmm…. Chem? Memorization? Actually, it’s part analysis as well. Gotta love Chem. It’s my fave subject of all time, especially one of its branches, Analytical Chemistry, which I think, a math wiz like you would enjoy. :-)
Mag-do-dorm ka? Ingat ingat! And I’m sure, ma-mi-miss mo ang family mo. :-(
Haha. Those spammers and blog-whoring dudes and dudettes deserved those anyway. :-)

  3. haha, i really never liked math. ayoko rin chemistry, lalo na sa naging experience namin sa malupit na chem lab teacher namin last sem. hay. mas gusto ko pa chem.

  4. waaa wala na akong alam dyan im out of school for how many years ang alam ko lang ngayon eh mag-alaga ng anak  sorry to say that that im no use commentor

pero u know what naalala ko nong HS fave ko ang chem pero pagdating ng college biglang hate ko na, cant remember why hehehe sanyan lang yan louie ako nong nagwowork pa ang layo eh almost 2hours ang byahe pagdating mo sa office pagod na :lolz: pero nasanay din and i dont want to work again na ganun kalayo ang byahe.

  5. math…. i didn’t even know that. my answer would also be +4 hahaha.

so yes, you now feel the pressure and shitness of university life. but since we are in a block it’s easy to befriend these same people i meet everyday, in your school sections are reshuffled every semester right? hmmm…. try to be more sociable. college life is easier and more fun if you know a lot of people. are you sticking to nursing? well join organizations… it breaks the monotomy of college life. and it would really help a lot.
though i hate it in your school because it became a haven of pa-cool kids. HAHA sorry but anyway every school have them… sobra nga lang sa AU. pero pa-cool sila, dumb naman. i’ll stress it.. management courses. COHHOOL KIDS heh? haha my comment is heading somewhere else.

your CD is still with me. sorry.

  6. plus…. after a year or so…. i think you will switch to livejournal hahaha because a lot cannot manage a site anymore when they absorbed the demands of college. kidding.

  7. Back in HS, I never really liked math. Takot ako sa math, mas prefer ko pa noon ang memorization over it. Pero college change it all. Narealize ko na nakakaaliw rin palang magsolve. Minsan nakakabaliw pero ok lang, it’s a challenge. Pagnakuha mo yung correct answer, ang sarap men. At ayoko ko na ng memorization. Hehe!

    Goodluck sa apartment hunting!

I dunno but I find Chem a LOT easier than University Physics. But bottomline is: I hate numbers :dizzy: Wow, 1.25 hours away? That’s like travelling from Baguio to San Fernando, LU.

Your really have to find a dorm. I think I;m lucky to be commuting for only 15 minutes from out house to school. May culture shock talaga for 1st years but you’ll get over it soon. Block ka diba? next sem, mag international ka kaya? That is kung gusto mo ng iba-ibang classmate. In my case I enjoy being non-block than being in a block. :)
Makakakadjust ka rin sa college but it takes time. May HS blues ka lang :lolz:

  9. haha. kami may minus sa lab. hay.. :(

    btw, thanks for linking me!

  10. Oh poor Lou! I hope you cope up soon with these new changes. And oh take care with the commuting. I’m not sure which one is safer. Having a dorm or continuing this commuting of yours. :dizzy:
I’ve forgotten about that exponential rule too…and I haven’t even left HS yet~! I better review my old notes…:blah:

  11. Shucks, to me, -2 raised to 2 is ALWAYS 4. I mean, unless you have (x-2) raised to 2 instead of x-2 raised to 2, that’d be different. Where are you studying, by the way?

And I’m glad you’re enjoying college. :) When I was still in UP (err, when I was still in the Philippines hahahaha) I loooved the social life, meeting new people and everything! :)

  12. I dunno, I’ve never had issues regarding that Math prob. I still think that Geometry’s the worst Math branch there is. I hate shapes, not to mention the formulae I have to memorize. Same with Chem. Asar noh? Why do they expect us to memorize all those things? It’s like saying that…

To go to SM Pampanga, you have to breathe in O2, breathe out CO2 and drink H2O.

Hehe. Badtrip. Hey, that’s pretty funny. I actually find more time to go online during college than when I was in high school. College takes lesser of my time. Pero sabagay, since when do I study for exams/quizzes, review our lessons, or even read the readings?
Hmm, if you think renting an apartment or half-living in a dorm will suit you, go ahead. :) Ako kasi, I’ve never had problems with commuting to school. Kahit na sabihing parehong Tandang Sora ang UP Diliman at ang bahay namin, magkabilang dulo naman lol. It takes me two hours to go to school, another two hours to get home. Traffic pa. Asar. Pero maganda nga sigurong mag-rent na lang, pagod din kasi yan. Init pa. Pano pag bumagyo pa? Hirap na.

    Haaay..Spam commenters..Get a life, please?

  13. Wait… my geom teacher last year discussed that before. YEah, i think your instructor is right. -4 is really the answer to that. You have to remember that from now on. :)
Yehey for the high grade in your lab expirement. if i remember it correctly, me and my groupmates never had the highest score in our chem lab coz we always finish last or something. hahaha :P
Live in a apartment na lang. It would be so much easier and convenient on your part :)

  14. Marami ka ngang matututunan sa college na di itinuro or mali yung pagkakaturo nu’ng HS ka. ;)
Merong books about memorization. One tip is to make a story out of the text you’re going to memorize. It works for me. ;) Tapos kain ka din ng mga pagkaing may Omega-3. Learned if from National Geographic. Nakaka-enhance ng memory. ;)
BTW, dormitory life has its perks and its jerks which makes it interesting. Depende sa mga makakasama mo. Heaven pag ka-jive mo, hell pag hindi.

  15. Tam

Christian na talaga ginamit ha! *points at the sidebar*

  16. i was NEVER good at math  and never good at memorizing stuff:redface: but I liked chem lab period - i secretly imagine myself attending Snape’s potions class:lolz:

  17. Okay. Christian, it is.
    Goodluck.

  18. ok christian right on ill change your link name

  19. wahihi! Christian! pinalitan ko na! sooner or later one way or the other malalaman at malalaman din nila!

  20. you ‘love math’ I don’t think I have ever heard anybody say that before.

  21. Christine

it’s not that difficult to find an apartment for rent, but as you say, it’s not a big deal to live a bit more far away.:dizzy:funny emoticons bytheway
