The mysterious sentence
Do you still remember that teacher who has a doctoral degree. He is our English teacher. And now, he wants us to memorize us a piece that he made when he was doing his Ph.D in his name. There was this sentence that we don’t understand in the piece:
He (the speaker) avoids affectation is rarely misunderstood.
Does anybody knows the meaning of it? Even my classmates are reacting about this sentence, well we can’t ask our teacher, we’re afraid. He is somehow strict and has a touch of weirdness, he does not want us to be very quiet!
He also said that black and white are not colors. So what are they? Colours? Lol…

When I read that sentance, it seems to me like there’s actually a coma misisng, that it should be reading “He (the speaker) avoids affectation, is rarely misunderstood” as if he was describing ‘the speaker’
and your teacher is right; black and white aren’t colours. black is a an absence of colour and white is achieved when all the colours in the visible spectrum are mixed together
or something like that LOL

The sentence. Maybe it’s supposed to be “He (the speaker) who avoids affection is rarely misunderstood.” Notice the “who” I put?
It would be better I guess to ask your teacher. He’ll know.
And YES. Black and white are NOT colors. Black and white are SHADES.

I think there needs to be a “who” (as what maxinne said”. I don;t get the idea without having the “who”. Weirdnesseseseseses naman
Colours, Colors, parehas rin lang iyan. Yung may u, British spelling, yung wala American spelling, parang “center” at centre rin lang iyan.

Hahhaha. :p Yeah I don’t understand it either. My gassss. He’s VERY good. :p Yeah black and white aren’t colors but the absence of colors. At least that’s what our science teacher said back in 1st year. But we consider it as colors. Nasanay e. Kaya yun. Hehe.

Black and white are not colors…. it depends, actually. If you see color as pigment, then black is the presence of all clors and white is the absence of all. If you see color as light then it’s the other way around.
I think what your teacher meant by that sentence was that the speaker’s way of behavior or his artificiality is rarely misunderstood. Not sure about the sentence construction though.

Black and white aren’t colors because… black, by definition, is the absence of color. White is what the basic color pigments create when put together, which are.. cyan, yellow, green. As for the sentence, I don’t think it is even a proper sentence.

I understand the words in it but the meaning per se, seems a little vague. Also yes, black and white are not colors, black is the presence of all colors (there’s a concentration) while white is the absence of all colors sa spectrum. Di ko ga’no sure pero nasabi na din sa’min ‘yan dati.

hmm I have no idea what the sentence means..Black and white arent colors, cause you can’t make them using any colors or whatever..lol..
